Looking to retire to Spain, Alicante region. If I have an Irish Eu passport will it be easier for my partner who has a uk passport to get a visa. We're not planning on working. How long do you need to have an Eu passport before you can apply for residency

EU Passport holder, you're ready to go. Don't have to have held the passport for a minimum period of time. The following links will provide you with information on 'family member of an EU citizen' and visas available:

Hi Ray,

If by "partner", you mean that you're not married, then I would highly recommend that you have your partnership formally registered in the UK or Ireland before moving to Spain.  For your UK partner to be able to move to Spain as a family member of an EU citizen, the proof required of a partnership where you're not married is far higher in Spain than it is in the UK.  Without a formally recognised partnership, your partner will find it extremely difficult to prove that they are a family member.

Kind regards,

Kim
