Totally agree Dinnerout.

If the Spanish border guards are deemed to have acted illegally then they will likely have to pay compensation. I suspect that those that were refused entry did not actually have the required paperwork as required by the Spanish authorities.

My headline assessment would be this isn't a case of Spanish border guard overreach, but more UK citizens failing having chanced their arm.

We also can't confirm that they didn't have their paperwork. It happend recently to a portuguese man returning from the UK, when he was interviewed apparently they didn't even check his id straight away and was man handled back to the gate for immediate boarding but eventually was let through because he spoke Spanish and was able lto eventually show his Portuguese passport.

Would you not consider that the arrivals had all the necessary paperwork but immigration deemed that on this occasion, in their opinion, rightly or wrongly, that they did not have a truly "valid reason to travel"?

Having personally traversed through Spanish immigration dozens of times since 1967 and extremely regularly through Alicante airport since 1985 I can sympathise, unfortunately the Brexit issue seems to be clouding the fact rather than considering the facts themselves.

Found this in the paper aswel. I am now starting to believe that they were sent back because they actually had no valid reason to travel and not because of brexit. People with a second home anywhere in the world use for holidays.

So even if you are a regular visitor, unless you have family here like kids that are in school here or something then its not classed as nessarcery travel but cant stop you from from entering unlesd you have your valid paperwork. I know its tough because people work hard to pay for their properties and can't use them atm and it is a shame. I hope this is over soon

Quite so Martyn but I very much doubt you will find the likes of "dinnerout" will be eating humble pie although I suspect they will have egg on their face.

I have reposted the same article but with extra info on new thread. Here it is

I don't know if brexit because if it is we have a serious problem for tourism. If its just the pandemic and not really valid reason to fly so the authorities are being overly strick. I don't know
