Hey Kimmy

No less entertaining tho eh? Like kids in a school yard. Just had a quick look at it before I posted about it (couldn’t remember it’s proper title!) - jeez, couldn’t make head nor tail of it. I did think the “boys” might find it amusing for an hour or so 😉

As you say, very much “he said she said” and stringing a sentence together is a challenge for some 🤪🥂

It's Facebook, what more do you expect!

Good post!

It took me 10 years for my friend to understand in Spain what puré de guisantes are. & She likes them now with Hendersons Relish.

Keep posting......I like this! Reminds me of the UK....

& now I await response.

Not much with this thread BUT! just received an advert

EASYJET & I quote............

We're really excited that parts of Europe are starting to open again.

Beach towels will be rolled out ready for use again, buckets and spades will be unpacked for building sand castles again, and finally beaches will have lots of little footprints covering them again.

Then (in small print........)"We may not be able to travel right now, but you can still book ahead to have something to look forward to".

Is it just me laughing into my mushy peas?

Thanks for sharing Looksie.

I remember reading recently of someone in this area pitching up at their local Indian for the Menu del Dia, expecting to be served what they'd been used to ordering for many a lunchtime prior to lockdown, and thinking, because the restaurant had re-opened, that everything should be as before.  So they fiercely complained about being "overcharged", even though they conceded that they hadn't actually been offered the Menu del Dia card.

In these strange times, I think we need to be sure that we check beforehand what we think we're getting  for our money.  It sounds like you certainly tried, but bars and restaurants in particular are struggling after 3 months without business and I think others may have unrealistic expectations.

On a positive note, we went to Ayutthaya Thai last week, one of our favourite restaurants in Guardamar and the first restaurant meal we've had for over 3 months.  It was fabulous, no doubt helped by us speaking to the owner first about what we wanted.  The limited paper menus on the tables were actually his take-away menu, but regulations mean he has to use these disposable versions, instead of the more extensive, bound presentations he would usually place on tables.  In any event, he said he could cook whatever we wanted.  Chatting to him at the end of the meal, he was telling us how difficult things had been  not being able to trade - no sob story, just a matter of fact.

From what you've explained, Looksie, it sounds like you had genuine reason for complaint and although the restaurant dealt with it appropriately in terms of reducing the price, I understand that feeling 'ripped off' can spoil your meal, whether it costs €5 or €50.

Never mind, one thing's for sure - there are plenty of other places in Benidorm for you to try!

Best wishes,

Kim

Hi Kimmy

It’s great to hear that there’s enough confidence for people to feel they can start to go out for a meal, or coffee etc. As your restaurant owner was saying, things have been very tough for them, I’m sure.

We’re not yet back in Spain but are really keen to be supportive of local businesses when we are.

It would be unfortunate if Looksies experience were to be become commonplace. As you said, there are many choices; along the Costas especially. There are enough businesses that sadly have had to close during this difficult time without them “pricing themselves out of the market”.

There are a couple of long established restaurants in my neck of the woods that have not survived; so very sad. Non of us wants to see livelihoods destroyed and buildings abandoned

Let’s keep our fingers crossed🤞that we continue to move in the right direction 🤪🥂

We went to our local Chinese last night.

Same experience as Kimmy, the paper menus on the table were there takeaway menus, but we were told we could order whatever we wanted from the main menu.

We know the menu well......the other 6 looked at one menu between them so they only had the one to clean.

3 courses, 4 bottles of wine between us and Bailey's....
