I am a retired British expat and I have lived in Mazarron for 7 years with my son and his Spanish wife. We all need to move up to Benidorm for my daughter in laws work in January 27. We are looking to buy some type of caravan on one of the campsites up near Benidorm, but my only information has been gained from TV and bargain loving brits in the sun. I have so many questions that can only be answered by expats who already live on one of the sites. Are there people out there that I can communicate with on a regular basis..

There are a couple of members on this forum who are on the campsites. I don't live on the campsites but if you can't get any answers to your questions I will try and help from people I know.

I have quite a lot of questions but I will only ask one at a time on each post if that is ok.
I am disabled and I need a caravan big enough to live comfortably with my son and daughter in law. Which park has the best choice of year round of caravans that can be heated and cooled and that can have a walk in shower. Price is not a concern but we will need a lot of space so we can all live comfortably together. Easy access to Benidorm by public transport is also important in the choice of park for my daughter in law.

Firstly I suggest that you compile a list of campsites and study their facilities and if they have any suitable caravans (or even chalets) that are available for purchase (or to rent). Recently, most campsites have introduced more rules regarding what is allowed outside the actual caravan/chalets. Some sites don't allow permanent patio areas, outside plants, aircon units, sheds, have early morning exit times etc, etc. These are the campsite rules you need to find out about before any choice of caravan. Some sites have clubhouses/pools others do not.
Enquire about how they charge for electricity, some campsites allow a certain amount free monthly, others charge full amount.
Nearly all of Benidorms campsites have a bus stop nearby to the entrance. A single fare is €2 locally.

We have our towing caravan on camping Benisol as long- stay but we also have a house near Almoradi. I see that they have mobile homes for sale at around 79000€ . I don’t know where they are planning to site them. Benisol camping have a book in reception with permanently sited homes for sale, separately from the brand new mobile homes that are for sale. Camping Almafra is closer to Alfaz del Pi (may not be walking distance for seniors) and they have a sales office for sited homes. The almafra site lies alongside the light railway line into Benidorm - change at Benidorm to go onto the Alicante network. Might be worth a visit to both or either. I am unable to comment on security of tenure or ground rent costs or if there is any legal regulation of these issues.

Hi. Thanks for your response. I have carried out some research on the various sites and Benisol looks the best option for us. I hope to be moving around January 27. I have seen a couple of used statics with conservatories built on and one of these would be ideal in terms of space. I dont know if another option would be to buy a new static and try to find someone to build an extra conservatory on the side. A touring caravan with any type of awning wouldnt give me enough room to cope with my disability. Do the buses into Benidorm run frequently summer and winter and how long is the journey.

The number 10 bus stops just outside the campsite at Benisol, we haven’t used it yet as dogs are not allowed on at all. We have been seeing it since the beginning of April. I know it runs all year and connects Benidorm with Altea. No idea of frequency. I will look at the timetable next time we walk out there. The Number 10 bus runs about every ½ hour from the edge of the old town to Altea. A single ticket is €2 for any stop along that route. If you buy a bus card ( for €2 and load it with Multiples of €10) then the price drops to 90 cents per ticket.
The bus will run from the campsites to the outskirts of the old town.

I have seen a lot of touring caravans for sale on line. Many seem to have solid plastic structures built inside the awnings to make extra rooms. Can anyone tell me if these are solid structures that can handle all types of bad weather and maybe even an aircon unit.

This is common and lots have been there for many years. I don’t know what claims the suppliers make for them. The chaps on the pitch next to ours have just had an enormous one installed but they havent visited for me to ask them. You have to use installers approved by the management.
