I was told (by an estate agent) that there is a some sort of agreement between Spain and China that enables Chinese citizens to gain Spanish  citizenship if they open and run a business for 5 years.  

There is a major industry supporting this process, with large China-shop warehouses/wholesalers in Elche.

John, yes,  maybe RayD is simply trying to drum up some ' Repeat ' business for them. 😃

Apparently a few years ago Spain borrowed money from China on the understanding that the Chinese bazaar groups could set up shops for 5 years at vastly reduced rent and rates. I've noticed within the last 6 months that they are gradually closing down so maybe it's coming to the end of that period.

Apparently they have a deal with the Spanish government for reduced taxes 

How do the Chinese and Spanish shops compare price wise? I would prefer to bring custom to the Spanish as it would surely maintain our usefulness to them.
