Kimmy, how is this any different than stepping out in front of a car when they don’t have time to stop?

… you have to use the crossing responsibly too.

Plenty of times I have looked to cross a road at a marked crossing and a motorist has failed to stop

Plenty of times I have been out cycling and a pedestrian has stepped off the pavement without any consideration to what may be coming, putting me at risk of injury.

I think the ‘haters’ on here really do need to ‘get out more’, preferably on a bicycle

😂

Why would you call someone who says she also cycles a "hater"?

When I took driving lessons 40 years ago (and passed my driving test first time), I was taught to look out for potential hazards, one of which was people at pedestrians crossings, who have priority over drivers.  The law is the same in Spain: pedestrians have priority over other road users at designated crossings.  My point is that, if cyclists had to take proficiency tests (as children of my generation had to do), they would exercise proper consideration and due caution when approaching pedestrian crossings, instead of cycling at speeds that prevent them from stopping in time.  So, as a cyclist, can you answer my question: have you passed a cycling proficiency test?

Read it again and see what you missed

Not sure I missed anything

If you’re referring to the fact they weren’t riding where you were expecting them to ride kinda reinforces my own point.

I didn’t.

it was a ‘if the cap fits, wear it’ comment

Too much generalising going on for sure

Then you obviously missed something, two words that will help you understand, BLIND SPOT, how could I see them if they were in my blind spot? You seem to have a problem with anyone who criticises bikers, my only problem with them is when they purposely are in the way when a perfectly good cycle lane that was made at the cost of 10 of millions of taxpayers money isn't used, I was out on my bike yesterday and I kept out the way of speeding past cars by staying in the lane that was purposely built for us. So your point hasn't been reinforced, I'm an advanced driver (granted that has now expired) and I used to race, so I know exactly where I am ment to look. Most road accidents involving both motorbikes/scooters and cyclists are because they are where they shouldn't be.

If you’re aware that such a thing as a ‘blind spot’ exists, how then do you / should you compensate for that as an ‘advanced driver’?

You want me to start answering questions this time of night on the highway code to try and and trip me up to win an argument? Not happening. I said my piece of you're not happy with me or anyone else having an opinion thats different from you because you're obviously big on cycling then thats you're problem. But just for the record, most cyclists when they know they're wrong, give a friendly wave as an "oops sorry mate" like any decent person would do.

Agreed, I think many points have been made and we’ve ’done this to death already’

Folks won’t always be what or where we want them to be so much tolerance and consideration is needed from all concerned.

👍

No "generalising" from me; I used a recent and specific example to describe the bad behaviour I often see from club cyclists.

The only person wearing that cap you're talking about is you 😉😄
