This may be of interest to some. Reports are coming out of the UK saying that the government has announced the traffic light list for countries won't be released until one week before international travel resumes and that the EU is not expected to be green. Meaning, you will need to quarantine, either in a hotel (red) or at home (amber) if you plan to visit Spain.

Things can and will change, but that is the initial state expected in the short term. Plus, of course, you need to wait for Spain to allow tourists in.

Yes read this today. Current plan is that from May 17th it's no longer illegal to travel overseas from the UK but Spain likely to be Amber until reviewed again late June.

It's not looking good for our daughter coming over in mid to late June as although she will be fully vaccinated she won't want to quarantine or fork out for the tests she is likely to need once back in the UK.

We would pay the cost of the tests but she still won't quarantine as she found it hard last July when she flew back to the UK after joining us for a few weeks when we moved over.

Probably not going to change much until vaccination rates/ %'s increase over here.

When one thinks about it ,not really surprising ,if Spain which is a magnet for many UK holidaymakers was placed on green list ,look at the amount of revenue that would be lost to these companies that are on Government list for testing ,many of these have affiliation to Johnsons government, Tories are bastion of free enterprise

Not that I'm buying into your tin hat theories, but you're not thinking that statement through.

If Spain requires quarantine many will not travel. If on the green list many will. Given that anyone traveling anywhere is going to need negative PCR tests to enter counties, regardless of vacinne passport or not, the more on the green list means the more tests will be done.

Bobtastic it's you that's not thinking it through  UK has nothing to do with requirements to visit other countries  ,its the return ,if visiting a green country.,as I understand it no quarantine required and possibly no testing ,but amber and red different levels of quarantine and testing that's when the revenue comes in.to these.companies and out of our pockets ,and you may care to explain.your tin hat quote

Hi Mark,

While Spain's rate of infection has risen in recent weeks to 201 cases per 100,000 head of population, Comunidad Valenciana's is the lowest in the country at only 34 cases per 100,000.  The Valencian government has opted for a very gradual release of restrictions and despite the positive impact reflected in the Valencian data, the regional government continues to maintain strict measures, such as limited capacity inside restaurants, earlier closing times for commercial establishments, curfew and perimetral lockdown.

Unfortunately, of course, it isn't C.Valenciana's rate of infection that will determine whether Spain makes it onto the UK's 'Green' list; there will need to be a significant drop at the Spanish national level before that will happen 🤞

Kind regards,

Kim

Just one caveat to this and that it is the rate of re-infection, R rate.

Even in Valencia its over 1 an has been more often than not. This has meant a significant % increase in the average daily confirmed cases over the last month, but a low numerical increase given it's from a low baseline figure, which is likely why people are not jumping up and down yet ;)

Valencia might yet get away lightly until the benefit of vaccinations kicks in.

I don't know what it has got to do with the EU.

Individual countries make their own choices on vaccination, hence Hungary is not far behind UK.

I think it will be on a country by country basis, not whether they are in the EU.
