Myself and my partner are close to agreeing on the lease of a bar in Benidorm, not too far from the indoor market. We would ideally like the expat trade and create a locals bar. Has anyone got advice or can you let me know if you are an expat what sort of things you would want us to be doing?

They do say that to make a small fortune in Spain you can start with a big fortune and open a bar, good luck.

Cheap beer will bring the UK expats in. Soccer or what you all call football will also. Rugby too. Cricket, Netball. :)Not the other 100 or so countries expats that visit Benidorm yearly.....oh; and it seems the Ukers like karaoke too... See above - cheap beer - for that reason...Good luck......

I like a bar where you can here yourself think without karaoke or football blasting out.
Nice quiet comfortable bar/restaurant with good well priced food and no television blasting out!!

I don't think I've ever seen someone ask a question online (in any forum) about Spain, and the first comment hasn't been someone being negative or miserable. It's unhelpful to whoever is asking the question and it's just plain boring to see over and over again.

It was also quite a factual answer, seen so many bars / cafes open then close within a year, maybe Benidorm (your location) is different, cant say as i dont go there.
Seems to be many Brits dream to open a bar in Spain, 10 or 20 years ago that might have been a good idea and a workable plan however i am pretty sure its less of a "wise" idea in todays Spain.
Yes there are bars that are busy but these are established bars that have been open for years, since covid things have changed.
In my original post i said good luck to the OP, i really do wish them luck, they will need it, sorry if you think that negative and miserable, i call it being realistic.
Also you said "it's just plain boring to see over and over again" so obviously not the first time you have seen this ??.

If someone is at the point where they are ready to agree on the lease of a bar, it's safe to say that they have researched it all quite extensively and have decided for themselves as fully grown adults whether they're willing to take the risk of it working out or not. They wanted advice or tips on how to bring in/please expats, so just stick to answering the question instead of immediately throwing a negative connotation out there.
British people are just the worst when it comes to not supporting others, the first thought is always to say something negative in response to anyone trying to achieve something or make their idea/dream work, it's always met with something along the lines of "why would you do that?", "I wouldn't bother, it'll not work out anyway", "I hope you know what you're doing", "I'd give it a year before you moving back to the UK". It makes everyone sound miserable.
It happens constantly. Find anyone asking a question related to wanting to move to Spain, work in Spain, or build a life in Spain and you will struggle to find anyone who 1) actually answers the question instead of interrogating the person about their paperwork, or 2) says anything remotely positive whilst sitting in Spain themselves moaning about it all day long. I don't understand it.
