Prices vary according to the type of medication, you need to ask at a Farmacia and pay over the counter or if you are a non-resident you can get them at a reduced price by going to a Clinic and using your EHIC Card to get a prescription which you take to the Farmacia.

For once I disagree with John. An EHIC should only be used for emergency treatment. And you should only get a reduction in price if you're in the Valencian system.

Just buy whatever you need from any chemist. Prescription drugs are price controlled and a lot cheaper than in the UK.

Jim, I was assuming that they were on holiday and had run out of their medication in which case they could use their EHIC, I should have made that clear.

I went to the farmacia yesterday to buy amlodipine  10mg for my mum who is going to run out of this and some other tablets before she goes home to Scotland. 4 weeks supply of 4 different items cost under €12!

Fantastic service no wasting doctor's time for prescription.

Ok in Scotland all would be free but certainly don't mind €12.

I have bought warfarin tablets so cheap, 100 box was around 3€ and I take ramipril(blood pressure)and antenolol(beta blocker), whole lot for a month came to 16€. The ramipril was the dearest at 9€, so this isnt expensive at all. Hope this helps to give you some idea of cost.

Pauline.
