I am a fiscal resident in Spain .Some years ago I received a sterling cheque & not being able legally to keep a UK bank account,my only recourse was to put it into Gibraltar apart from going down a route with my Spanish bank to convert it to euros.Later I added a euro account as it meant I could hold an amount there only declaring the interest for my annual tax return here in Spain. The Spanish tax authorities are looking rather for those who own property or large investments, not my modest amount. This has been ongoing for several years without a problem. Now I have been informed that all euro accounts are being closed & I will get a cheque from a Spanish bank that I can put back into Spain.Strangely, also a year ago when I used my credit card to make my usual annual donation to a British charity,it was refused until they realised it was a one off payment & not a monthly direct debit as they stated that they could no longer take regular payments from Europe. Is the UK accepting that Brexit will happen & we British Nationals here  will be out of the picture?

When I left UK some 30 years ago I was told that I could not have legally a bank account account there & indeed we did not receive any child benefit for our child from that day.We do know that there are many hundreds of Brits.who continue to use a UK address & now I am retired, ,I have my UK pension sent to my Spanish bank because I do not use this system.Of course there are UK banks who allow this but we came to Spain to operate a business leaving behind the one we had in UK to operate a similar business here & integrate. There was nothing left behind as it should be but you can see that now the appointments system for many who have been living "under the radar" wanting to get residencia or NIE  have overwhelmed this process. When I attended a meeting for ex-pats.by the British Consulate there was a Dutch National married to a British spouse who also raised the same problem regarding a refusal of a credit card which prompted me to speak out.I am  a British National, served in the Armed Forces so will always be that although I have Spanish relatives now but I do abhor some of my fellow countrymen who want to be in a halfway house & take the advantages from whatever side suits them.So perhaps in Gibraltar they want to make this clear to their clients.

Still the same question. Are we British Nationals on the continent gradually being ousted from services such as not being able to use a Spanish issued credit card & euro currency not wanted & is this due to Brexit?Just want opinions. It will be interesting to see if,in Gib.,shops & restaurants stop advertising their wares in both currencies.

My late husband and I moved to live in Spain 14 years ago and kept our bank accounts in the U.K.    They are still in existence, although now just in my name.   There has never been any indication that they could not be kept and used.

As you say,you kept them I assume using your old UK address which is the way I suppose to get round this. But in the mid 1980's when we came here we were advised that we had to close everything hence no longer getting child allowance. It made sense as we were becoming owners of a Spanish business & fiscal residents.Of course this was before Spain joined the EU.However in 2002/3,retired,  I had some money so decided to buy a property back in the west country to try out living for a spell again back there but kept my house in Spain also.A bit like people do now with a holiday home. When I went to register at a bank was told I had to prove I had bought a property, produce bills etc.& had become resident in England. As it turned out I found that I preferred Spain.I was able to sell very quickly & since my residencia throughout that time was in the process of being renewed,as we had to do then,& took so long,I simply was  back at square 1.I had been concerned about if I could register with a local NHS Doctor so asked the CAB,age concern & then a solicitor who told me"it was a grey area"!Actually this posting was not about "can I keep my UK Bank account" as for me I have no need of one except how I can get my sterling out of Gibraltar now that Brexit is looming.

No, we are not being ousted from being able to use a Spanish issued credit card or any other services that I know of.

I don't see that you have provided any evidence to support this, or any supposed link to Brexit.

No, dogsbody, the U.K. bank accounts have my Spanish address on them.   I don’t have a U.K. address.

If all you want to do is get sterling out of Gibraltar, and if I'm understanding you correctly, just use Transferwise etc to move the money as euros to a Spanish account.
