Relocating to Scottish borders

Many years ago lived in Glasgow & Edinburgh but have no idea of costs now to buying property in Scotland but after many years of living in Spain I am thinking of moving to the Scottish borders.No family now here but grandchildren only,who all live in the Highlands.Myself,I would prefer the Eastern Scottish border towns,perhaps Galashiels or Hawick.Would appreciate any info.about buying fees & perhaps some details of the area.
