Looking to buy a property in a couple of years and looking into all aspects so we know what we are doing , also trying to learn Spanish ready for moving , we live in England at present. Please can anyone advise what torrevieja area is like as for some reason we seem drawn towards it and looks such a good place to live. We will be going on holiday with a view to checking out areas  hopefully next year Corona virus permitting but would appreciate any input from anyone . Thanks everyone . Andy

On the plus side you will be close to all amenities & shops on the down side it will be busy and the nearer the centre you go the less parking there will be, that said there are some lovely properties in the suburbs I would look for something with off road parking if possible.

Looking at the prices you do get more bang for your buck near Torrevieja.

My 2 pieces of advice would be first rent somewhere for a while get to know the pros and cons.

Second there may come a time in the future when you cant or dont want to drive so being in close proximity to the medical centre, shops, restaurants etc would be useful.

There are some lovely suburbs near Torrevieja, one thing to bear in mind try not to buy a property overlooking a piece of wasteland as sure eggs is eggs it will be built on at some stage in the future and your view will be gone, I have seen this happen quite a few times in the 5 years we have been here.

Spain is a lovely country, but the bureaucracy can be a nightmare particularly if you don't speak Spanish, likewise Doctor or Hospital appointments can be difficult if you do not speak the language.

Thanks must admit we have seen quite a few properties with waste ground near it and have been put off.

We live in an area called Los Balcones, on the outskirts of Torrevieja. We’re in an urbanisation called Lago Jardín 1. We took early retirement and moved out 2 years ago - and have absolutely no regrets about our choices. We’re 10 mins drive from the centre of Torrevieja, on the edge of the Pink Lake and have excellent amenities such as bars, restaurants, supermarkets, hotel, hospital, dentist, bus route etc within walking distance. What we also like is that there is a good mix of holiday and full time residents, so winters aren’t lonely, and that there is also a good mix of Spanish and other ex-pats of varying nationalities. You can get by fine speaking English here, but of course, speaking a little Spanish always helps. And if you’re really stuck, there are some excellent gestors/translators who will advise and even attend appointments etc with you for a reasonable fee.

If you would like any specific information about this area, please hang onto my details and private message when you’re ready to start looking, and I’ll be happy to help if I can. I have a 1-bed rental house opposite us. It’s usually booked up most of the time between March and October, but if it’s available and you’d like to spend a few days looking around the area, it would give you a good feel for the location and the local people. Good luck.

You’re very welcome. We are extremely happy - although of course, it may not be to everyone’s taste. We were fortunate to meet people who shared their experiences and local knowledge, so we’d be very happy to do the same. Good luck, and enjoy the journey.

Hi Andy. I’m looking to do exactly what your thinking, I’m going to sell my house then downsize to a flat here in the Uk and the rest of my capital for a property in Torrevieja, I’ll then rent out my flat  and still have a base here. As I understand it the area between the two salt lakes is very popular with us expats.

I will be a Young at heart 62 time I move there, been living in Blackpool for 30 years and like a lot of us here in the UK I’ve had enough and looking forward to a new start. I have two small dogs and am looking to drive via Bilbao overnight ferry and rent for 3 months so I can have a good look around all areas. I’ve done loads of research which in itself cheers me up especially during these difficult times.

Good luck

Glen
