Hello

We both know my husband  and I have to pay for a 1st years health care (private) then my husband can apply for a S1 (if so how much does this cost please) (as he's retired) as his wife do i need to apply for my separate S1 form and pay?? or once my hubby gets his S1 I am covered on his S1?

Many thanks

Rea

JUST READ THIS: WHAT DOES THE BOLD STATEMENT MEAN PLEASE? - MY HUBBY IS NHS AND IS GETTING UK PENSION PAYMENTS SO DOES HE NEED THE 1ST YEARS PRIVATE MEDICAL CARE STILL?

Sorting out your health insurance cover

It is vital that you put into place the correct type of health insurance cover when applying for a non-lucrative visa. The Spanish authorities will check that your health insurance offers at least equal cover to the Spanish Healthcare System, without any copayments, excess or exclusions.

If you are a UK national with a UK retirement pension, you can use your UK NHS cover, using an S1 form. Everyone one else needs to purchase private health insurance.

Thankyou

S1 healthcare will not cost you anything to set up and get it running. The only cost that could be incurred is a 10% cost of medication at the Farmacia.

If your husband is at retirement age now and receiving UK government pension he could apply for the S1 healthcare forms (and include your name on the application) and use it as your healthcare requirements for the non lucrative visa. If you are applying for the non lucrative visa you will not need to have private healthcare for the first year as the S1 will cover it. If you contact the Overseas healthcare team at Newcastle they will fill in the forms over the phone, don't forget to include both names then you will both be covered as a Spanish national would.
