Hi

I’m due to fly out to Benidorm on Sunday 22nd for 5 nights obviously worried about Coronavirus and wanted to get  info from people already in Benidorm

What are the Spanish Government saying ?

Is it quiet due to cancellations

Have some of the bars closed

Just trying to get a feel for what’s really happening as the Spanish cases are going up at a rate of approx 450 per day in Spain against 35 new cases a day in the UK

Thanks

Hi,

I live in Benidorm and can tell you that this week is very busy because it's Cheltenham week and the bars and restaurants are full.

Town centre was as busy as any other day at this time of year.

Nobody is wearing masks other that doctors and healthcare workers and maybe the staff in the local Chino warehouse.

In the Rincon de Loix area one Chino warehouse and one Chinese restaurant have closed this week as "Precautionary" measures.

There has been no reported cases yet in Benidorm and no particular advice from any government agencies other that to wash hands regularly.

The whole of the Valencian community has 96 as of today. This includes Castellon, Valencian and Alicante. The area is as big as England, if not bigger. The whole of Spain has less than 3,000 in total.

Hi Pete,

In this rapidly evolving situation, the Spanish government announced this afternoon a "State of Alert".  We await further announcements tomorrow concerning how this affects those of us living in Spain, but it is likely that we will be restricted from leaving our homes.  In fact, there won't be much point going out anyway because, as of midnight tonight, restaurants, bars, shops, theatres, nightclubs and all other locations "with seats" are not allowed to open for a period of 15 days.  We've just returned today, earlier than planned, from Valencia as the Fallas has been cancelled, as have St Patrick's Day celebrations and Easter (Semana Santa) processions.

I'd recommend you sign up for travel alerts with the Gov.UK website:

https://www.gov.uk/government/topical-events/coronavirus-covid-19-uk-government-response

Kind regards,

Kim
