I’d really like to know what life is like on the ground now in Benidorm? Pretty much every other resort I ever had an interest in has gone to the dogs since Coved kicked in. Bars closing or being closed by the authorities. Expats being strapped for cash and having to return to their home countries. I’m thinking of Pattaya here specifically. So how about Benidorm. The same ? Better? Worse?

Cheers!

Hi Mel,

I have lived here in Benidorm for 7 years and Benidorm has been in the doldrums since covid first kicked in with bars, restaurants and many other businesses closing down and some never to reopen. Some have gone derelict and will need a lot of money investing to get back on track.

Having said that, there are thousands of holidaymakers here at the moment ( mainly Spanish, French and German) and the bars, restaurants and hotels have reopened, some fully reformed, and are doing very well indeed. There are likely to be many more bars etc reopening during September when Brits will replace the EU citizens on the beaches and hotels.

Benidorm has certainly bounced back and getting stronger. Still covid here, still require masks and still the curfew is on....for now.

Thanks Steve. I’m looking to retire in November. I’ll be spending time in  with my Daughter in East Kilbride, Glasgow. Doing some research. I may sell up in London in the spring and buy a two bed in “The Village” ideally . It’s near the centre and would give her a place to live rent free and act as a base for me to use as a launching pad for foreign jaunts. Pattaya in the short term, then Benidorm in the longer term when the 12 hour flights start becoming a bit much. Of course it all depends on what Mr Coved has to say on the matter🙄. Nice to meet you👍🏻

It’s still far cheaper to live in Spain than it is the U.K. so I’ve not heard of any expats selling up for that reason. Maybe some of the ones living under the radar have to return every 90 days now, but they’re to blame for that predicament.

As for bars, in some areas they change hands on a regular basis, but it’s not really changed since pre Covid days and it’s a very very low percentage of bars that once close never reopen.

We have restricted opening hours, limited capacity  and some areas have curfews, which means some bars are not fully functional. But in general it’s business as normal.

We left The Village, East Kilbride about 9 years ago, we quickly noticed the difference in the weather!😂😂😂

Have a whisky in The Monty for me! (My mother-in-law was born in The Monty!)

Cheers

Thanks a lot. That is good news. Would I be under the radar now post Brexit or could I still join the club legally? And if so at what extra cost?🙄

Hi Stevec2x. I fly up next Sun for a week and then up again for Christmas and the NY. Staying in the Bruce the first time then 2 weeks in the Ramada. I’ll certainly hunt the Monty down and do the deed. Which area of EK is it in? Talk laters...

Just read your post again. I’m guessing it’s in the village? My Daughter lives in Greenhills so I’ll be up there a bit as well👍🏻
