Hi I am looking to relocate to Spain, just outside of Benidorm. I'm just wondering if anyone can give me any advice on getting work and how achievable it is to get a contract of work. Also given that the UK is no longer in the EU, is it difficult to apply for residency to live in Spain? Any advice would be greatly appreciated 🙏

Hi Tom,

To be able to live in Spain permanently you need to apply initially to the Spanish embassy (in London or Manchester)while you are still living in the UK. You will need to apply for a non lucrative Visa and meet the income and healthcare requirements.

Hi there Steve

Thanks very much for this. That's great to know. May I ask when attending the embassy, will I need to have a job offer / insurance in place before been granted the visa to go to spain? Or, is it possible to apply for a visa which allows me to reside in Spain longer than 90 days to seek work etc.  I've tried to look into the process online without success.

Thanks for your kind advice

I think you would find it nigh on impossible to find work in Spain that would give you the amount required to live on and to gain residency, unemployment in Spain is historically very high and is now worse since COVID took hold.
Any available job has to be offered to a Spanish national or EU citizen first so you are already down the ladder, sorry but since Brexit that is how it is.

Check the gov.uk website for visa and residency requirements it is not as easy as it used to be for people to move to Spain.

Hi,

Paolo has given you good advice regarding available jobs.

If you apply to the Spanish embassy for residency and a non lucrative Visa you will need to prove that you have full healthcare paid for a full year and meet the income requirements which are an annual income of €27,500.

The first thing to do would be to see if your qualifications will be accepted in Spain to see if you can work in Healthcare.

Fluent Spanish would also help.

Hi there

Thanks all, this is where things get confusing as other research suggests non lucrative visa is for people who are retired and do not intend to work? Also some sites advise I must earn at least £6700. £27500 would be pretty much impossible to achieve. I'd never think things were soo complicated 😕

Hello

The figure you mention €6700 was for the time before the end of the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement which ended on 31/12/2020... the figure quoted of €27500 is the new amount from 1/1/2021 now that  the UK is  out of the EU  Schengen zone & is a 3rd nation country

Cheers

The regional health service just made redundant 3000 extra staff that were hired during the worst part of the pandemic here so your chances of finding work has just decreased by 3000 with EU or Spanish people looking for the same job

Thanks all, I can only assume the healthcare sector in Spain is a no go area, perhaps other sectors maybe more of a viable option 🤔
