Sorry for your loss and too late for you unfortunately but it serves to highlight the fact that if you have irreplaceable content on a phone then you really MUST back it up somewhere.

There are multi options for doing that none of which should cost much, if anything, nor is it particularly difficult even for the more technically challenged.

In addition to online options you can buy what's called an OTG (On The Go) adapter which plugs into the charging port and then provides you with the ability to plug in a USB stick onto which you can directly copy whatever is precious to you.

Very good post Darro!!

Backup on modern phones is virtually done automatically so it makes you wonder if th OP perhaps didn't realise that and could possibly recover the lost photos 🤔

Presumably you’ve  been back and asked the guardia .If someone has found a phone within the last seven weeks it would have been handed in by now. .  Due to the sheer volume of items lost and stolen  in the area I’ve no idea how long the guardia keep the items for, presumably depends on how big their storage warehouse is  They probably need to auction them off quite regularly..

Accidentally losing your phone is one thing, having it nicked means zero chance of it being handed in.

Here's another tip.

Put a message on your phone screen offering a substantial reward to a finder and with a contact number and/or email address.

Depending on the value of the phone (plus of course its content and the grief and inconvenience!) if you offer enough it will be a better deal for a thief to claim the reward than flog it in bar or wherever!

Do it today.

Good idea Darro, or our OP should be on the lookout for strange things happening on his new phone.

On the subject of lost and stolen phones. There was an interesting story from Jason Manford on his social media yesterday. The whole story is fascinating, but briefly.

Apparently he was receiving messages from his daughters phone when she was sitting next to him not even near her phone. Turns out she had  given her old phone to her grandad, who had lost in whilst in Australia. The new owner of the phone who lives in India, had bought the phone off someone in Dubai and was having problems because the phone was still connected to iCloud etc.

So the suggestion of messaging the phone is an excellent idea, after this length of time it could be anywhere it the world,  It might even still be traceable through the location tracker if the thief hasn’t cleared the phone correctly.
