Sorry you had a bad experience here in Benidorm but I'm afraid to say that the tourist areas are full of opportunist thieves who are very clever at what they do for a "living"......
Keep all valuables well out of sight even during the day and only take enough money with you for the days needs.
I hear about several phones being stolen every week on this forum.
Report it to the police to get a crime number for your insurance claim.
