If you have an Amazon.es account beware:

My amazon.es account was hacked into about 3 weeks ago and the hacker ordered a €50 amazon gift voucher through my account to be sent to them which they duly cashed. They also changed something in the account so I can't recieve emails now that are sent from amazon.

I informed amazon customer service department and they immediately blocked my account for "suspicious activity" and said their team would investigate and reply within 5 working days. Needles to say that was 15 working days ago and after several phone calls and being fobbed off I've got absolutely nowhere. My account is still locked and "somebody" has still got my €50........

Keep a close eye on your account.

Hi,

Thanks for the heads up. Even though I don't have my details remembered on my Amazon Prime account I will still double check. I always receive an email as soon as there is any movement on my account so hopefully it won't happen but the trouble is the clever thriving buggers are always one step ahead!

Sorry to hear this Steve and thanks for the heads up.  Like Madcatwoman, I never save my login or password in my Amazon account, but I will certainly be on the lookout for anything that looks dodgy.

Kind regards,

Kim

I always get both a text message and an email when I log in to my account  and it tells me details of device and location.

If anyone hasn’t  got this extra level of security I’d suggest  switching in on. It’s in the security section of the account details page.

I had that turned on but the hacker altered something so that I could not (and still can't) get any emails from Amazon.es!! That is the way they operate but Amazon.es customer service department are not interested even though they must know where and to who's account the €50 gift certificate was paid to.

I really thought that was why they used both your mobile number and email as security.

For a multi billion company you would think really expect more from them.

It’s a horrible feeling not just that they’ve got into your account, but  it feels like violation of privacy because they’ve accessed your email address.

I had a friend whose Amazon  UK Account was hacked  but the credit card company were quick and refunded payments right away.   Now I think about it I don’t think Amazon mentioned to him about them refunding money and  that’s why he got on to his card company. They sent him a  code via mobile to get back into his account. . It’s a bit hazy sorry cos it was about 7 or 8 years ago now. From their experience I would suggest you close that account down  completely when you can. Then open a new account with a different email address. My friend once he got access back to his account, changed his email  address on his account and put in new card details,  but it was compromised again a few weeks later. I think once they’ve got in to the account once they could return back to it.

If you have t already done it change your email password asap

Hope it gets sorted soon

Lynn
