I really want to see some flamingos in a natural environment; where is the best place to see these beautiful birds?

Preferably, I'd like to be able to stop somewhere to take photos as well as being able to watch them for a while (if possible).

I am in Benidorm but I appreciate that I will have to venture further afield to see these birds.

Thanks in advance.

Sonja.

Hi,

You need to venture out towards Torrevieja. There is some salt lakes just outside of Torrevieja called the Salt lagoons where there are pink flamingos.

Worth the visit.

There's also a lake at Calpe where you can see them.

Reminds of a past life when we went to Superbowl XX to see our Chicago Bears in New Orleans and there were all of these huge, pink spots on all the roads - my father imformed me those were flamingos who lost their battle against a car or truck..

Thank you!

I guess it's pure luck as to whether you actually get to see them - depending on when you go...I SO want to see  them.

I think I will message my friend who lives in Torrevieja & when she sees them, to let me know!

Thanks once again.

Kind regards,

Sonja

Is not crossing regional borders still not allowed?

You may have to wait and by that time they will have continued their migration.

Hi,

I live in Torrevieja and run by the La Mata lake 4 times a week , I've been looking out for the flamingoes to return and saw a group of about 30 a couple of weeks ago. I haven't seen them since but I remember seeing lots of them I  June last year.

Santa Pola seems to have them most of the year and they become more abundant in the warmer weather.

Thay are such bea6creatures so I hope you get to travel down and see them :)

Hi,

Wow! You saw THIRTY!

I would literally LOVE to see some...I wonder where they go when they are not at the Salt Lakes?

Les Salines in Calpe is 30 minutes from me, so I may take a look there at some point.

Come May / June I would also like to drive to Torrevieja and see if I can catch some there.

It would be amazing to see them.

Thanks so much for your reply.

Benidorm and Torrevieja are both in Alicante province so no issues with borders as long as she gets off the AP7 before she arrives at the border with Murcia.

Thanks for that. I always thought that Torrevieja wasn't in the Valencian region..  Amazing that 2 of the poorest cities in Spain are here and heavily populated by brits.
