Hi

I we are going to Benidorm on 13th Feb , do you think it will be warm enough to swim in the sea, or will we need wetsuits on? are there people in the sea now with wetsuits on.  Has the weather been nice and warm there?

Thank you.  Karen

Weather is nice with some very nice days, but it can also be cold and grey.

Majority of people that paddle board or in the sea for any length of time would prefer wetsuits me thinx

Hard to say for sure

Weather during the day (11-4) can be lovely and warm  (around 20C) as long as you stay in the sun. Go in the shade and there’s about a 10 degree difference.

Outside of those hours it’s chilly. Nighttime temperatures have dropped to zero the past couple of evenings.

Sea swimming depends on how brave you are, the sea is usually a good few degrees warmer than pools. My pool was 7C first thing, now it’s in full sun it’s 11C, so I’d expect the sea temperature in the heat of the day to be about 15C.

But that’s at the moment, we have lots of rain forecast for the next 2 weeks and the rain at this time of the year brings the temperatures down. I think from Monday onwards and for the next few weeks the forecast is for a high of 13C. February is always the coldest month of the year.

There is hardly anyone in the sea here in Benidorm as its very cold. You will certainly need wet suits.

The temperature at this moment (15.30 Benidorm time) is 18° in the sunshine but go into the shade and it drops cold in seconds. Over night drops to around 2°.

Bring plenty of warm clothes for the late afternoon/evening.

The water temperature is the same regardless of weather the sun is shining.  I went in without a wetsuit a month ago and it felt about the same as sea bathing in the UK in summer.  In the sunshine in a sheltered spot with no wind it was warm enough to just sit and dry off on the beach afterwards.  One of the coves north or south of Benidorm would probably be a better spot for bathing now than the wide open sands of the main beaches.  If you want to stay in for a long time, then a wet suit would be essential, same as in the UK in summer.
