Hi Gerry,

The selling agent and/or vendor should be able to tell you, or your lawyer.

Council Tax, known as IBI, is set by the Town Halls and in the Alicante province, it's collected by the SUMA agency.  The owner of the property on the 1st January is responsible for paying the IBI due, in this area, in October each year.  If the vendor was still the owner on 1st January this year, your lawyer should have agreed a retention from your purchase funds to the value of this year's IBI.  As part of the completion process, your lawyer should also arrange for all utilities and IBI to be switched from the vendor's name to your own - itcwould be worth double-checking that they're doing that.

Kind regards,

Kim
