No, if you are moving on relocation and taking up residency your household goods can be, in the main, imported without paying tax.
You need a detailed list of the goods, estimated value and approximate date of purchase. You can apply for the VAT exemption within 12 months of moving to Spain or, if you are sending the goods ahead, within 6 months before you move if you can show you have applied for a visa or residency.
Goods that are exempt
Imports destined for personal use, for your family or home needs as long as it does not contribute to a business or professional activity.
Domestic animals and portable tools that are necessary for your profession or job (these will be considered to be for personal use).
Bicycles, motorcycles and cars for private use, as well as trailers, caravans and recreational boats.
You must show you have lived outside the EU for at least 12 months and that the goods are not new but a minimum of 6 months old including cars.Goods that are not exempt
You just need to show you have resided outside the EU continuously for a minimum period of 12 months, show that you are moving to take up residency and show the goods are your personal items which have been used for 6 months or more outside th EU.If using a removal company, ensure that they have all the details of the goods being sent to Spain.Simply specify you are claiming the VAT exemptions due to changing your residency from another country to Spain.Best of luck on your move
