Hi, anyone have any advice regarding banking in Spain. I currently have an account with Sabadell however the charges are quite high.

Any advice would be very much appreciated

Thanks June

Hi

I too bank with sabadell , I was advised that all the banks charge in Spain, I think all you can do is shop around for the best deal you can get, and speak to someone Spanish and see what they pay.

Hi June33

We have just closed our account with Sabadell due to the 140 euro a year charge, we use a company called Wise as do alot of non residents you can run all your DD's through it and the exchange rate is very reasonable.

Like most I had a Starling account which was used to do all our banking in Spain but with Brexit this has changed things as they have a GB IBAN with no pland to get a eurpoean IBAN, you require a european IBAN to connect your DD's as the Utility companoes wont accept GB IBAN now, Wise has a Belgian one which covers all your needs regards to setting up the DD's, I had an issue with Hidraqua although we are in Spain now and all sorted.

Regards

Andrew

All banks now charge for accounts. Its quite expensive for non residents but it is also a hefty charge for residents.

I bank with Sabadell and I pay €60 per annum.

As already suggested, you could open a Wise account which will have a EU account number.

To be honest Steve I could live with €60 a year as a Dpanish account is useful but I am not paying £140 for nothing when all my DD's run through another bank without charge.

If your resident look at BBVA they have an online account with no charges...!!

As you say Aspen, €60 per annum is quite manageable.

I want to leave Sabadell too and I hoped to use the Starling Account. I went to the Curenergia ( Iberdrola) office locally and she told me my GB Iban was OK and completed the forms there and then but I'm still not 100% confident she's right.

Hydraqua told me via the online account service that I couldn't use a GB iban for a DD but said I could pay by bank transfer but I havent proved it yet.

In trying to switch insurance from Sabadell to Liberty I came to a halt when they said they couldn't put the policy in force without a Spanish bank account number.

My community tell me I can use Swift and they will pay any charges or I can do a bank transfer.

I havent got round to the Suma yet.

it's certainly a minefield.
