No simple answer to that question as experiences vary widely not only between the banks themselves but also individual branches, you could liken it to a game of 'pinning the tail on the donkey!'.I'm with Caxia and had nothing to complain about until their takeover of Bankia which undoubtedly had a n...Read more...

Fortunately I have little need to visit my branch on a regular basis so it doesn't really bother me that much one way or the other. One plus point is that online and on ATMs everything can be done in English, I'm not sure if that's the case with other banks. Sabadell seem to come in for fair bit of criticism but at the same time would appear to have been the bank of choice for many Brits, possibly because of an imagined but in reality non existent, connection with Sabadell in UK, so that could be an explanation for that.Yer pays yer money and takes yer choices so good luck!
I've been with Sabadell since I got here four years ago and have had absolutely nothing to complain about in all that time. I rarely visit the branch but obviously draw cash from time to time at their ATMs. I used them when I bought my house to get a bankers draft and house insurance, but have since switched to cheaper house insurance providers.
I bank online with them and everything is in English, as are the ATMs. The online facility is very easy to use. The service started off free, then in 2020 they introduced a charge of 15€ a quarter. When I started receiving the UK state pension last year, I went in to see them to activate their offer of no charges for people who have their pension paid in every month. Sure enough, I have paid no fees since.
I've read some complaints on here, as I have with the other banks, but I can only speak as I find.

We have always been with CaixaBank. Never had any problems, although will echo previous post comment that it may depend which branch. Our ‘ official’ branch where we opened our account is not, curiously, in our immediate vicinity. They do tend to be a bit more rigid, but equally have always been helpful. However, the branch in our local small town, like all banks now, wants you to do as much as possible at the machine, but equally, when their main door is open, providing you may be willing to wait for a short while, one may wander in and speak to someone.
We seem not to pay charges other than, for example, online transfers to pay invoices etc, although direct debits for utilities don’t appear to incur charges.

Having been with La Caixa bank for the last 16 years, I’ve never had any real issues with them until the covid lockdown and obviously the increases incurred for running the account which are now €35 per quarter as non resident customers of most banks in Spain have started to levy to varying amounts.
I returned to Spain at the end of last August to find my local branch closed and other branches in Santa Pola also closed without even any notification. The service I received from the main branch in Santa Pola was to say the least appalling, but now do all my transactions at ATM’s or via online banking so very rarely have to communicate with them…..thank goodness. So you take your choice when dealing with any banking branches in Spain. Hopefully others have been more fortunate than me!!
