Money transfer

Transferwise are the only ones I now use - and I have been through a few of the other companies over the years!  Registration is free.

I agree with the previous two posts - Transferwise. Easy to set up and use (great phone app), good exchange rate, low fees and above all usually exceptionally quick

This is a very sensible suggestion to do a small transaction to start with to test the links between accounts. When you use Transferwise, the Euros' do not come from the UK, but from banks in Estonia and Germany (this is how they can charge lower transfer fees).  Your Spanish bank my question this if you start to transfer large amounts (for a house purchase for example), but as with us, soon as they knew it was all legal, which of course it is, then we have never had any issues.  Transferwise were very helpful in explaining the process to our bank in Spain. Hope this helps. 

We have used Smarts accounts for the past 10 years and never had a problem they also offer a 12 months fixed rate

I think it is unlikely that the fixed rate will be based on a one-day high. More likely they will look at trends and then offer you a rate based on expectations of what it will do over the next twelve months. Just the same as is done with a fixed rate mortgage over longer periods - you may not get the best rate, but you have the re-assurance that it will not change over the fixed rate term and can e.g. budget accordingly.

Yes that is correct but I am still currently getting 1.15 so it works for us
