Hi, has anyone traveled to the U.S.A. recently? Did your local covid certificate work or did you need something else? I have a covid certificate from the local doctors, but it says at the bottom that it is not a valid travel document. What should I do?

I was in the US this summer and took my vaccination certificate. They didn't even look at it.

Hi,

one of my daughters went to New York two weeks ago, her NHS covid pass was all she required (she is fully vaccinated including booster). She also said to take some masks and they are required in certain areas, mostly cabs, trains, etc., probably similar to Spain!

Take a look at the gov.uk website:

https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/usa/coronavirus

You can get a covid pass from the NHS app or by contacting the NHS online

Rgds,

Aitch.

Thank you, Aitch. I had my vaccines in Spain and have a Spanish Covid certificate. It said it is not valid for travel. It has a QR code on it so I don't know if I can use it or not?

Hi Brian,

sorry, I don't know how you get a covid travel certificate from the Spanish authorities. You will be able to get the EU covid certificate I would think.

I am sure someone else on here will be able to help but if not ask your GP or your local health centre or try Citizens Advice Spain - https://www.citizensadvice.org.es/

If the certificate you have says it is not valid for travel then it will most likely not get you into the US, you know how picky their immigration officers can be!

Rgds,

Aitch.

If you scroll back to  posts when the EUDCC first came out, you find the answer to your question. There is a link to the EU website confirming this, but sorry I’ve long since deleted the link from my personal favourites

No the EUDCC is not a travel document and  that means it cannot alone  be used to enter a country.

The EU link clarifies that - A travel document is a  valid passport ( or other country equivalent)   You cannot gain entry to a country just by producing your covid certificate.

Millions of people have used the EUDCC as well as the NHS covid pass  as proof of covid vaccination to meet the  covid entry requirements of various countries across the world.

Thanks Lynn, where is the link? Can I use the NHS Covid Pass if I got vaccinated in Spain?

Hi Lynn,

No that’s the link to download the EUDCC

I’ll have a look later

Lynn

EDIT——————

I’ve found this link which explains  all about the validity of the EUDCC

https://ec.europa.eu/info/policies/justice-and-fundamental-rights/eu-citizenship/movement-and-residence/eu-digital-covid-certificate-vaccinations-and-travel-restrictions_en

There is still another link out there somewhere explaining the EU originally called the EUDCC a digital passport and some people thought that this new document  had replaced their normal passports and therefore didn’t need any other  documentation to travel the world other than a sheet of paper to say you’d had a covid jab. Hence the reason when the EUDCC came out it had printed on it this is not a valid travel document. Meaning you still needed a passport to fly out of Schengen.

It’s a bit like the ESTA Brian needs to travel to the USA, that is not a travel document.  Your covid certificate, boarding card and visa are all supplementary documentation required alongside your travel document (passport)

As Brian now has the link from the US  government confirming his EUDCC is valid I don’t really think any other clarification is required.

Second edit     Found the link  regarding the document wording. Please be aware that this document was first issued in June 2021 and therefore any mention of restrictions of travel have been changed, numerous times since that date. Therefore the documentation should only serve the purpose of explaining about free move

If you were vaccinated in Spain , you  must have an EUDCC.  It has  three flags on the top and is the standard document for anyone vaccinated in the EU. The flags correspond with the country you were vaccinated in.  This is the only recognised document for anyone jabbed in the EU. The flags are the EU flag, Spanish flag and Valencian flag.

As long as that’s the cert you have that is your valid certificate, which as I said previously is the one all EU residents have been travelling with for over 12 months.

You can download your vaccination record from local health authorities, but it is just that a record , not a valid vaccination certificate.

The NHS covid pass is for people who have had their covid vaccinations in the U.K. , therefore has nothing to do with you.

The link below tells you what certificates are acceptable for entry to the USA

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/proof-of-vaccination.html

Scroll down to the section entitled acceptable proof of covid 19 vaccination.

The same information but in a condensed form is on the gov.U.K. website

https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/usa/entry-requirements

Again detailed under the heading of proof of vaccination status
