Hi all, Im Sure this has been asked many times before but I'm debating whether it' better to keep hiring a car ( I come to my place in Benimar every month for at least a week) or to take the plunge & buy a little car. However 2nd hand cars seem very expensive & wondering if anyone has any car buying tips such as where to look, or is it better to buy in the UK & bring a car over? Any car advice would be much appreciated. Thank you June x

Used cars are more expensive than in the U.K. and Ireland as they usually last longer, you need to factor in the price of change of ownership, if you buy from a dealer it should be included in the price and done for you but if you buy privately it will cost around 300 Euros at your Suma Office. Just shop around for insurance quotes as you would at home, we use Linea Directa.if you bring a car over from the U.K. you would need to get it registered in Spain to stay legal as there is a restriction on the time you could drive it here, I don't know all the details but I believe is expensive.

Sorry to but in on your conversation but I have the same scenario except I’m choicing between renting and buying in Spain.

My query is ITV and insurance prices are they comparable to the uk or more/less expensive. Also apart from the transfer and normal maintenance/running costs are there any other charges that I’m not aware of.

Thanks

Insurance tends to be more expensive as there appears to be more minor knocks to cars, probably due to drivers not being familiar with driving in Spain. The ITV is roughly 30 Euros, servicing and ITV preparation very depending on the car and what is needed but are reasonable. There is a large variation in the price of petrol, as much as 20 cents per litre, one mechanic who knows the area well told us why some are cheaper, not naming names but a well known supermarket allegedly puts water in their petrol.

We are moving over to Benijófar in September and will be looking to buy a car when we get there, can anyone suggest where to go to buy one, we don’t want a new one, maybe a couple of years old with low mileage but something reliable and big enough to Carry  3 people and a Labrador in the back.
