Hello again (sorry for all the questions!),

We move over to Benijofar in september this year and the whole family want to visit for christmas! What prices do people generally pay? Is it worth waiting till later in the year to buy?

Thank you

Depends where they are flying from but from my experience ( flying from Edinburgh and Glasgow around Christmas over several years) you can get ok prices around Christmas provided you return between Christmas and New Year. By ok prices I mean c. 70ish  each way. The big price hike tends to be flights returning to the UK between 1st- 6th Jan.in the past I have flown back very cheaply for c £35 on New Year's Eve. Specifically went on New Year's Eve because the flights shot up to £250 after that, only dropping again after the 6th. Obviously it's something to do with holiday patterns ( perhaps to do with 6th  being Feast of the Kings in Spain or just UK people all trying to get back to work or school start.) I tended to book fairly near the time of travel ( within 2 or 3 weeks) rather than loads in advance as I couldn't commit to dates before that.  The fly in any ointment this year might be the B word, as 31 December will be last day of the transition period and there could conceivably be a rush of people trying to get back to UK before the 1st Jan which would affect flight prices. On the other hand maybe there won't be any issue.Just factoring in possible uncertainties.

I flew with Ryan Air last Dec from Glasgow Prestwick airport, 10kg cabin allowance and small bag. Total return cost of £39.98.

As SarahGreen suggests it's cheaper leading up to Christmas. The week in between Christmas and New Year is usually cheaper.

Only way to find out is to have a look at the respective airlines web site.

Thank you for your advice. Currently one way is £99 which we thought wasnt too bad. My family were going to book the one-way at that price and then get their return nearer the time. But do you think they should hold off till nearer the time for their flights over?

Always some great prices from Glasgow Prestwick! Shame for me that it's not a convenient airport to get to ( am on east coast).

It strikes me as a bit early to be booking as not all the airlines have released their December tickets yet so you might be paying over the odds. E.g. Easyjet haven't released December tickets yet. See this link to a Martin Lewis advice on air tickets together with release dates. You may be better noting these release dates and be ready to pounce then....  https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/flight-ticket-release-dates/

It will depend what airport you are flying from and how many airlines fly from there to Alicante.  There might also be deals to fly into Corvera but that's really a bit of a hike from Benijofar and probably only worth considering if you are happy to drive to pick family up/ bring them back as a taxi  etc would be very very  expensive from there. Have never tried Corvera myself.

Can't really say. Everyone is different and have different mind sets.

I can only speak for myself. I like to have all my arrangements done and dusted before I travel, this allows me to relax and enjoy myself without worrying about having to arrange return flights.

There are no hard and fast rules, I fly from Scotland, which is further away from Alicante, therefor one would expect the flights to be more expensive.

Which airline have you looked at? Which dates have you chosen?

Not all airlines fly from Scotland. As an example I check Jet2, Easy Jet and Ryan Air. I have been flying back and forth from Scotland to Alicante for best part of 12 years.

For the last 10 years I have always used Ryan Air. In that time I have been delayed once. A whole load of nonsense is written about this company.

Apart from one delay, I've never had a problem with them in all those years. As long as your friends take the view that airline runs on a cheap and cheerful, you get what you pay for ethos, after all I'm only on the flight for 3hs 10mins.

Agree,  every time you check price goes up.

What’s the best way to keep search secret?
