Applying for TIE using the EX23

For those contemplating applying for their TIE.  I attended the foreign office in Alicante yesterday.

When entering your information in the ticket machine, if you registered using your NIE, use your NIE.  Vice versa for passport.

For those concerned regarding the need for Spanish, don't worry.  In room 3 [sala 3] I found that all of the processors [there were 5 desks] spoke English.  Even the security guard at the entrance knew enough to say "show me your appointment!"

They seem to bring everyone in batches of 5 - I was only halfway across the hall when called "please come, please come", so move quickly if you happen to be the last in your time batch.

The most difficult part of the process was taking the fingerprints.  Alcohol wipes and several retakes, otherwise entirely painless process.

Hi Longjob,

Thank you for sharing your actual experience,  having real life first hand examples of how the process is working will give us more confidence to try without a translator.

Best wishes

Vivienne

My desk attendant didn't speak any English - not that she should. We just joined the queue 15 minutes before our appointment. Security guard said nothing and we instinctively navigated the security scanner.

The people there were friendly enough though - which helps :)

That is good to know, we haven't changed out green residency to a TIE's yet.

Hi Lancelot,

Were you applying as first-time applicants (EX-20), rather than swaps (EX-23)?

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Longjob,

Great post, many thanks for your feedback.

We're doing our swaps on Friday this week and I have one query please: did you copy your passport pages in colour or mono?

(I remember seeing a post from someone who said they'd taken colour, but needed mono - but I can't find the post now and don't know whether they were first-time applicants or doing swaps.)

Many thanks,

Kim

Hi Kimmy

Yes 1st timers - we did the first bit, ex20, wholly online and then booked the ex23 appointment online and printed the form.

Edit - we had our passport copy in B&W.

We did our TIE last week very straightforward colour passport copies.
I had arranged to get an up to date padron the day before as told by some they were asked for it others not. So to be safe we took it.
Although Jims guide says padron not needed we were asked for our padron when  questioned about our address on our current residencias card. I would recommend to take your padron regardless.
