My daughter is currently staying with us in Spain but working for a British company, she wants to apply for her TIE. She has opened a Spanish bank account and has put the required €9000 in. She has been added to our Padron. Can anyone advise me what she has to do regarding healthcare. Thank you

I think you will find the personal amount needed in a Spanish bank account has been reduced from 9k to 5.5k and has to be seen in the account for 3 months, as for health insurance, do the British company not provide some sort of health insurance, the only other method is to search the internet for PHI. sorry got to go, someone at the door.

Hi Shelagh,

As Peter has advised, the current financial requirements were reduced a couple of months ago and now are either a lump sum of Eu 5,542, or monthly credits of Eu 463 per month, either amount for a minimum of 3 months in a Spanish bank account.  If your daughter's British employer is not providing healthcare for her, she will need to pay for Private Health Insurance (after her first year of permanent residence, she can apply to join the Convenio Especial, which currently costs Eu 60 per month).

Has your daughter agreed with her employer how her tax status is going to be managed?  While there is a dual taxation agreement between Spain and the UK, she will be obliged, as a Spanish resident, to submit annual tax declarations here.

Kind regards,

Kim

Have a look at the Citizens Advice Bureau Spain website.

Hi, following this with great interest as we have just moved over in the last fortnight and our lawyers have told us we need at least €7000 in our account each, for 3 months plus €1000 each person per month.  This would be absolutely amazing if you are correct as my husband currently has his private pension paid into our Spanish bank account, which is around £1900, but I don't have employment as of yet so we were just going to live off that whilst I find work.

I went through the residency process in August and the financial statements are correct, check out

Hi kd,

I'm afraid your lawyers aren't up to date - the new financial requirements, issued by Alicante about 6 weeks ago, are:

For 1 person:    €  5,538.40 per annum   or   €461.53 per month

For 2 people:    €  9,415.28 p.a.   or   €   784.61 p.m.

For 3 people:    €13,292.16 p.a.   or   €1,107.68 p.m.

For 4 people:    €17,169.04 p.a.   or   €1,430.75 p.m.

Each additional person:   €3,876.88 p.a.   or   €323.07 p.m.

I have these on headed paper from Alicante's Oficina de Extranjeria, but it's too small to read, which is why I've extracted the numbers above.  In support of a first-time TIE application, you need to show these amounts in a Spanish bank account for at least 3 months, proven by way of certified bank statements.  Uma of Get Legal In Spain, who was the gestor who first alerted us to this change, also advised that affordability is being taken into account when TIE applications are considered, so bank transaction activity is looked at and anything else that can prove financial viability, such as owning your property outright.

Kind regards,

Kim

Provinces also differ So whats required in Alicante won’t be the same in ie Murcia

Quite possibly, tigerfeet, that's why I specified Alicante in my response (and because kdixon's location showing as Benijofar, which is in Alicante province). If you also have evidence of different requirements in other regions, especially Murcia, I'm sure members would be pleased to receive it.

Kind regards,

Kim
