Well I certainly don't agree that you should refrain from wearing high end watches. I wear mine as that is what it is meant for.......not to keep in a box.

However there are times to wear a nice watch and times not to. I mean I wouldn't wear one if I was particularly vulnerable or walking round markets all day. Its all about common sense, but even the most diligent people can get caught out.

Going out for a meal and getting dressed up, wearing a nice watch is a must.

In any event,  these people whatever their nationality are a total disgrace to society, and a proper example needs to be set.

So making a rational assessment now falls into the realm of political correctness DOES IT ?

Just another reminder of why I rarely post on this forum . 

You initially asked how the OP knew they were Romanian gypsies, and that was a  fair question. The OP then later replied that the police had identified them as such. So what’s the big deal, your question was answered. I do not think that there is any justification to say that due to certain replies, it reminds you of why you rarely post on this forum.
I can only speak for myself, but I find this forum extremely fair and helpful, just like it should be. I don’t find it racial, or particularly politically orientated. It may have been a while back with a small minority, one who definitely had a big anti British chip on his shoulder, but those days have gone. It’s a great forum, sometimes people disagree, but I use it for advice, help and assistance. And it has provided that, thanks.

I think giving an accurate description to the police of the assailants, as much info regarding their tactics, area of operation and vehicles used will be the best approach.

I’m afraid this type of crime will happen where unsuspecting victims are more prominent and accessible, there will always be criminals who profiteer from this fact.

Just be aware of the surroundings, mitigate the possibility of being attacked and making people aware of this happening can only help people prevent it happening to them, on that fact alone I thank the OP for raising awareness.

Be aware of where you are and who is around. 

No need for aggression, but don't be afraid to look - directly - at someone. If they were thinking of you as a target, they'll give you a mis, for a while at least. 

Don't be afraid to tell someone to go away if you don't want their attention. Again, no need for violence or aggression. Just tell them loudly and firmly. 

Don't walk, or sit, around with your nose in a phone. Keep it in your pocket and your wits about you. 

If you need to tell the time when you're out, would a £10 Timex do it as well as a Rolex? Of course it would! 

Use a cheap watch, if you're trying to impress someone with x number of thousands of pounds on your wrist be sure that it will attract thieves like bees to honey. 

Think about yourself. How you look. What you wear. What you carry. How you carry yourself. What you project. 

Do you look like a victim, an easy target? 

It's not all about them. More Cctv might help identify thieves but it won't stop them stealing. 

We all bear responsibility for ourselves. 

This kind of post gives me the shits. The police have identified them and said they are Romanian gypsies! If they know who and what they are, why are they still on the streets. I think the story should read - 

I know a person, her sisters friend's brother in law has a workmate who was robbed by what he believes was Romanian gypsies. 

Just curious but what are wokes/snowflakes?
