Padron
I am in Spain 56 days of the year. Do i need to register for padron?

Although some town halls will allow you to sign on their padron technically they are out of order as it's supposed to be for residents only, they do it though as it increases their head count and therefore the money they get from central government so the correct word for it is fraud !
A rough parallel would be a visitor to the UK being able to or required to sign onto the electorol roll which is clearly nonsense and doesn't happen.
That said you need proof of padron as part of an application for residencia so in that circumstance it's a chicken and egg situation.
Thanks. I am assuming would only need residencia if we are in spain over 90 days.

Correct Wendy, and don't sign on the padrón - that's illegal and it's you that could be penalised, not the town hall, if a check was made. Also, signing on the padrón is declaring that you live in Spain, so are due for tax here, and you could end up with the tax man chasing you.
