The specific guide I did is:

https://www.costablancaforum.com/area/almorad%C3%AD-spain-11/general-almorad%C3%AD-discussion-9/jims-guide-wood-burners-49763/

I recognise that pellet burners are the only option for someone who can't install a flue, but they're comparatively expensive and prone to problems. I also recognise that they're easy to use and don't have the drawbacks of a log fire, but I've heard too many reports of electrical and mechanical problems to consider one myself.

Hi

I have oil central heating. It is cheaper than burning logs and pellets and a lot cleaner.

It gets so cold here that central heating is a must.

Hi

I had a pellet burner installed about 12 months ago and am very pleased with it. You can set it on a timer and adjust the heat as required.  It looks nice being an inset one. You can hear the fan that pushes the heat out but it's nothing untoward. Its simple to load with pellets and just needs a vacuum to suck the ash out as and when required.

Personally it suits me and I'm pleased with it.

However, I do agree that it not aesthetically pleasing as a log burner.

Its all down to personal preference really.

Good luck with your quest.

Have you looked at Jim's Guides on this site?

Jim's guides are very good.

I have kicked my log burner into touch. It is dirty and makes a lot of dust. I have got fed up with having to feed it constantly and order its feed by the tonne and then ash it out.

I am going to go for a pellet boiler (by which I mean one that heats water, not the air) which will be in the garage. I will be able to load it with 250kg of pellets at a time and it will clean itself and the ash box only needs to be emptied infrequently.

It will heat traditional UK style panel radiators. Having said all that I wish we had natural gas near here. The boilers are cheap by comparison.
