A quick update on the PCR tests we did when we got back to the U.K. we used Randox Health and we got the day 2 and day 8 tests for £86 for the 2 tests. Normally £96 but got discount with EasyJet code easyjet2021. We also paid £43 for the day 5 test to release test to let us out of quarantine early if negative. The service has been excellent. Day 2 and Day 8 tests were waiting when we got back. We did the day 2 test and took it to a Randox drop off box. We got an email the next morning to say our sample was in the lab and got the result that afternoon, so dropped off one day and result back the next day. We dropped off the day 5 test on a Sunday and I got the results today confirming negative and that I no longer have to isolate. We do still have to do the day 8 test. When they email you get a really detailed certificate showing all the relevant details. Really good service for us so far.

I guess the only challenge is you have to go to a Randox drop box or a DX courier drop box. Our Randox box was about 20 mins away so drove there.  The website shows you where all there boxes are. The Randox ones are collected 7 days a week and the DX courier one is Mon-Friday.
Also, except for today, which is day 6, we have had a call from track and trace every day.

Hope this is of interest!

Hi. I took them myself as don’t have anyone else to take them. I went from my house in my car and straight back so didn’t come into contact with anyone else. The Govt instructions are you can walk, drive or cycle to your nearest drop box so shouldn’t be an issue. Funnily enough I did get a call on my way back but nothing was said!

You might want to check as it might be that if you are isolating you shouldn’t go out at all but the instructions in the test box just explained how to send them back.

They are on the Govt approved list and the only option is the drop box so can’t believe it’s not acceptable to go and post them. If you choose to go and have a test done rather than do it at home you are allowed to drive to the test centre so am sure it’s ok.

This is from the gov.uk website, so looks like it's ok to take your swabs to the drop off locationGetting or posting your tests

Where your testing provider conducts the day 2 and day 8 tests at a test site you can leave the house for your test. Where your tests are delivered and self-administered, if there is no one in your household or bubble who can post the test for processing, you can leave the premises to post your test.

If you have to leave the premises, you should follow safer travel guidance and avoid public transport if possible.

"the only challenge is you have to go to a Randox drop box or a DX courier drop box. "

This is NOT correct.  The instructions with the Randox tests emphasise using their own and DX drop boxes but they do also say you can arrange delivery by other means at your own expense.  I used Royal Mail Tracked 24 service, paid for online, labels printed at home and put in a Royal Mail 'priority post box' which seem to be at every post office, no matter how small.  Collections are made every day. Mine for both Day 2 and Day 8 were delivered from rural Cornwall to Northern Ireland in 15 hours with emails confirming where it was throughout.  Cost me just over £5 to return two tests.  It's so easy and efficient there's not much point going to a drop box even if it's not far away.

Our day 8 results were returned negative (surprise, surprise) in the morning of Day 10 with the bizarre instruction that we had to remain in quarantine until the end of Day 10, but if any enforcers stopped us or came to visit we could show them the result of the test. Can anyone explain why they can't just say you don't need to quarantine any more?

Yes, understood. However, many people will have a Randox drop off point near to them. I live in East Yorkshire and the Randox drop off clinic is minutes from my house. So, providing I stick to the travel rules and effectively go straight there and straight back ( and not via the 'Queens Head! ' ),I am complying with the requirements as I see it and the process is simple. If I were in a rural location or not near a drop off point, clearly the sensible option is as stated by Gordon. We'll all get there in the end! Hopefully the new Health Secretary will sort out this nonsense. Hold your breath........!!!

Apologies, my mistake.
