The golden Visa will officially end on 3 April 2025.

What are you in two minds about?

Thanks for your reply .

I am in two minds as to whether or not this is worth it .

I have owned a property for 6 months and it seems to me that over such a short period of time

that Spain are manipulating their tax rules to build an ever greater barrier for Brits .. France and Portugal may well follow this .

And I also see there`s a proposal of 100% tax levy on house sales to Brits .

Many thanks

Bryher

The tax , if it should become law, will apply to all nationalities from outside the EU and not just Brits.

Spain is only in the planning stages to impose a tax of up to 100% on the value of properties bought by non-residents from countries outside the EU, such as the UK.

Sánchez did not provide any more details on how the tax would work nor a timeline for presenting it to parliament for approval, where he has often struggled to gather sufficient votes to pass legislation.

The Spanish government said the proposal would only be finalised "after careful study".

I personally wouldn't get too worked up about it at the minute and to perhaps keep a 'watching brief' on the topic.

Hi

I agree ... what did concern me more was that this statement was made by Sanchez

so should be a sound base to work from .. having said that ... politician's I suppose ...

I do know there is a lot of lose talk about these things which seems to happen quite often coming from Spain .

Thansk very much

I think " loose talk" is more likely to be spread by certain British newspapers, trying to stir up anti Spanish feelings.

If you read any english language Spanish news media you will get the full picture, try Spain in English or Spanish News Today , Citizens Advice Spain,or for traffic and road  information the facebook group N332.

I think the situation is that no-one knows what is planned by the Spanish government, they probably do not know themsleves. Reads more like political posturing to me.

The trouble with many threads started on the same subject is that other replies get lost in cyberspace. Still awaiting clarification from either Moncloa or Parliament on what was meant, whether 100% on actual cost, which is what some are reporting, or 100% on transfer or VAT charges which others are reporting. Or even if it is legal under EU rulings as was the rule on inheritance tax deemed discriminatory so residents and non residents get treated the same.

And while the UK press will harp on about affecting Brits, they seem to imply it is only Brits whether it's taxes or visas when it affects anyone outside the EU.

Edit to add, it now seems he said "100% increase on the applicable tax on property acquisition for non EU non resident citizens."
