It is still confusing, and as I understand it with the changes coming in the UK, Spain is now on the amber list from May 17th, therefore permitted travel with tests both ways, quarantine on return, and the 2 and 8 day test package with the 5 day early release available.

I stand to be corrected on any of this, however its costly with a lot of return restrictions for short term stay however long term stays may benefit from coming changes. But we need to remember it can also go the other way especially with the state of alarm releases here and the likely influx of frustrated Spanish with holiday homes moving about.

The link is to the Schengen restrictions which state that the EU will only be accepting visitors from certain countries before the end of May, It doesn't include the UK. So legally without reasonable accepted travel permits, for example, residency, care for relatives, work etc travel is not permitted. This is not to say that people haven't travelled without any of the examples, I suspect overland is a route most have taken, or just got lucky with the border officers.

Anyway, legally the UK will let you travel from 17th May, with restrictions, however legally Spain or any other EU country won't allow you entry (without listed reason) until earliest beginning of June.

Please if anyone else can confirm, or correct anything then I am sure we would all benefit.

Good luck.

I’d say you got that spot on! 👍. After some very protracted threads some weeks ago, I think people are now understanding that regardless of what the U.K. may say  regarding leaving these shores, it vital that Spain agree to let us in, before we attempt travel 😄😄

Fingers crossed for the beginning of June 🤞Let’s hope the testing companies in the U.K. are getting their act together. So many of us have been let down and left feeling “ripped off” by their poor performance. As you say, it’s a costly experience and people rightly expect an efficient service 🤪🥂

Great summary TA40 👍  Spain lifted its national State of Alarm on 9 May, but third country nationals can't travel here before 30 May.  Spanish legislation also continues to enforce the mandatory wearing of face masks and maintaining social distancing of a minimum 1.5m.

Although the UK is letting its citizens leave the country from 17 May, personally, I think 21 June will be a more significant date, particularly if the UK adds Spain to its 'Green' list by then 🤞

Good point, too, that things can change for the worse, as well as the better, as none of us can predict what's likely to happen with virus mutations.  It only seems a few weeks ago that we were talking about the Brazilian, South African and UK variants - now the UK has the Indian variant, so who knows?  Spain reviews its data every 2 weeks, so worth checking back here, or on Gobierno.es, nearer the time of travel.

As an aside, Spain has set a new daily record in its vaccination programme on 3 May, with 504,823 doses administered in 1 day.  From next Monday, vaccinations begin for the 59 to 55 age group.

Stay safe,

Kim

I have just read in the U.K. papers that Spain May allow travellers from the U.K. for holidays from May 20th if infection rates are 50 per 100,000 or less. The lady responsible for tourism, sorry can’t remember her name, said she has been in discussions today with her EU colleagues to allow U.K. to be allowed into Spain for the purpose of a holiday. She also hinted that a PCR test may not be needed from that date, albeit the U.K. will still require tests on return to the U.K. and isolation as Spain on the amber list. I am keeping an eye as I am desperate to get out there as a home owner!
