Good Afternoon

We are looking at Relocating to Spain in 2020 and are looking at areas that would suit our lifestyle and needs, Reading reviews on Benissa it seems to be right up our street but wondered if anyone can give a different opinion who live there.

We plan to come out in November and then if we like it maybe looking to rent for a while first but wondered what the real Benissa is like.

We are looking at edge of a village as would like more space than by the coast as want own pool, but what are the transport links like?  is there any ex pat community we could get involved with? what is it like to find work as we will be will be semi retired but would still like a small income. ( possibly considering a holiday let as a business)

We dont speak Spanish but really would like to learn and intergrate at the same time so is there any Spanish/ English classes available.

What is it like in winter time as in things to do. Looking at the climate it looks pretty mild in winter but would still want some things to do.

Any Help would be appreciated as my head is spinning with all the information i have read.

Thanks In Advance

Denise

I don't live anywhere near Benissa but this link gives some info

https://www.costablancaforum.com/articles/1/living-in-benissa-useful-tips-advice-24/

Buses in Spain, especially away from coastal resorts and larger towns and cities are usually far and few between and it's an expensive taxi ride from either Valencia or Alicante airports. There are bus services which serve Benissa but timing and planning will be necessary.

Temperature charts make winter look a lot better than it feels in many Spanish properties. Outside the sun may be shining most days but when it sets the temperatures plunge. Few properties are double-skinned or have much insulation at all and older properties often only have an open fire or a wood burner and you will need heating from October to March/April. Newer properties should be better insulated. Visiting in November will give you a decent idea although January and February are usually the coldest months

Finding contracted work as a non Spanish speaker in a traditional inland Spanish town is going to be an uphill struggle and unemployment is high here. Being self-employed (Autonomo) entails quite high contributions towards health cover etc.

New laws for holiday lets which have been enforced since last summer make that option a lot more difficult and two of the forum members have put together a fantastic guide;

Davebev1's guides: Renting out your property as a holiday let in Spain

Another very helpful post is this ;

Jim's guides - your complete guide to Spain

If you want to join the Spanish healthcare system after your first year, this will cost €65 pppcm which excludes medication and dental services.

As you are not coming out until after October 31st we may hopefully all have a clearer idea of what the future holds by then.

Thanks Cheryl your advice is very much appreciated.

We arent doing anything this side of Xmas and are simply fact finding at the moment. I will have a look at the links  provided and hope to get some information in what is a bit of a mind field at the moment.

Kind Regards

Denise

Apart from the sites mentioned above, have a look at the Citizens Advice Bureau Spain site for current general information and the N332 site for anything to do with driving in Spain.   The latter site is run in collaboration with officers of the Guardia Civil for English speaking people and has an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code.   As also mentioned, be aware that many things may change after the 31st October.
