I'm trying to find an apartment but am having no luck.  The larger companies, like SpainHouses.net, ThinkSpain, etc., are not very good about contacting me back.  Also, they charge very high fees and it isn't relfected in the rent so it's hard to calculate the real cost of living in a particular unit.  One recommendation I received was to use services that the locals use and avoid the ones that cater to vacation rentals.  Makes sense, but I'm not sure how to make that determination.  Do they respond to newspaper listings?

My trip to Spain just got delayed by 21 days because my vet forgot a vaccination.  I really want to have a rental lined up for when we land.  So frustrating.....

Don't know what I would do without you guys!

Use a Spanish Estate agent, they are better priced at rental properties for the Spanish and that is why the Spanish people use Spanish Estate Agents for renting.   Try it yourself,

It's just going to be me, although I do hope to have visitors from time to time.  I would like two bedrooms.  I have two cats and one dog.  The dog is a 33 pound schnauzer mix.  I want to be able to walk to services and activities.  Not everything,, of course, but soe things.  I don't want to be isolated.  I love being around people and hope to make friends.  I'm going to learn Spanish.

I would love to have a little bungalow with a tiny yard but would settle for an apartment with good outdoor access.  I don't care about swimming pools and golf.  I hope to buy something eventually but want at least six months to look around and wouldn't mind a year's lease for the right place.  I am leaning towards an unfurnished place.  I'm having my household stuff shipped, but not any furniture.  I could buy some furniture.  Must have good internet connection.  I'm retired but am also a writer and do some online work.  A water view would be nice but I also like some of the townhomes in old city centers with their high ceilings and indoor courtyards.  I want at least 85 square meters and would prefer around 100, but maybe that's just because I'm used to Minnesota where the weather is often inclement and I get stir crazy if I don't have some room.

I'm trying to keep my money for a new home intack so I would like to keep total monthly costs around 800 euros.  There are so many beautiful places in Spain and I love so many of the cities--Benissa, Moraia, Denia, Alicant, Altea.  I don't want too small a community.  I may be older, but I'm very active.  I suppose yoga on a beach is pushing my luck at my pricepoint.  I don't have to see it in person prior to renting.  In fact, I would prefer to have something lined up even if it is unfurnished.

Thank you.  Anything you can do to help is appreciated.

Bonnie

Hi,

Sorry my place is too small for you then even though it's only 550 per month inclusive of all bills and fullfills most of your criteria.

Hi Bonnie

I know your post was a while ago, but my husband and I (and wee perro) are in the same boat now.  I'm trying to pin down a reputable agent to work with to find a rental.  Our requirements were pretty similar to yours: 2 bed, 6-8-12 months (depending when we find a home to buy), I do want heating (not via aircon unit as I have asthma and that seems to make me cough a lot) but do require it furnished.  We were open to anywhere from inland Jalon /Orba valley down to coast, from Calpe up to Javea.

I'm hoping by now you have bought and moved in and are incredibly happy in your new life in Spain.  Any do's and don'ts from your experience would be very helpful.

Best regards

Jill
