I have recently inherited a villa in Benissa, I live in the UK and have no idea who to contact to set up electric, water etc accounts, I'll be coming over in a couple of weeks so would like to get this sorted out, thanks

Hi Mike,

assuming that accounts for utilities have been running (and getting paid) it should be a fairly simple process to get them transferred into your name. However even to do this it can involve a bit of running round. If it was me, I'd engage a local Gestoria/Asesoria to handle it. Google search, but someone living there may reply on here with a recommendation hopefully.

However I'm fairly sure you will need a Spanish bank account. That can be done very quickly when you are over. Just rock up to Sabadell with your passport, very simple.

However I'm not sure if you will need an NIE number as well. Hopefully again, someone on here may advise. But if you do the Gestoria will do this for a fee.

Cheers, steve

No problem Mike. Just a thought, but if you had a local Spanish solicitor during the inheritance process they would also do the transfers for you. But if you intend to keep the villa I would be inclined to go the Gestoria route as you are likely to use them again for other things.
