we will be moving into a house in the calpe area in may and although there is some furniture will need certain other items .

the prices of things like garden furniture outdoor tables and chairs  and bbqs seem extremely high but the alternatives i.e taking  stuff over there from here in the uk seems fraught with difficulty, shipping costs , import tax, customs clearance etc etc . has any body got a view on alternatives or should we just accept that we will pay way more in spain than we were used to paying in the UK for these types of items?

thank you for in advance for your wisdom ?

Hello

I would say buy new stuff in Spain everytime. The furniture you mentioned is subject to paperwork   for all those items, customs requirements, fees  plus insurance (for damage) , inevitable delays etc.

For many years I worked in a charity shop here, & the amount of British style furniture/garden items that were donated because they weren't suitable to Spanish homes or unsuitable for  our outside weather temps .  Shop around, quality & price/delivery will vary , old furniture can be taken away ( sometimes for a few extra €s) but overall I think you will be satisfied with your purchases.

Cheers

Unless it’s something very expensive with which you would be reluctant to part, don’t bother. There is virtually nothing which is unavailable, from cheap and cheerful to very high end exclusive items.

Morning Shorty,

I retired to Spain last March and, in May,  moved into a furnished, four bed, new style villa - most house sales here include furniture. However, I had paid c£10K to have the contents my five bed Wokingham home transported to Spain. The majority of my UK furniture went straight to the local second hand furniture place and the proprietor there also purchased my RHD UK car so that worked out well. In hindsight, the £10K was a waste of money because there is nothing in the UK that you cannot get in Spain (but you may pay more!).

Hope this helps and best of luck with your move to Calpe. On an aside, try the Patio restaurant in Calpe Old Town!!
