I have been offered a Spain registered car by the widow of the former owner. I've never bought a Spanish registered car before and don't know the process. Unfortunately the lady selling the car doesn't really know what documents she should have to compete a transfer of ownership and I'm currently in the UK so can't help her search!

From what I've read elsewhere, there should be something called 'Permiso de Circulacion' which is like the UK V5C. Also I presume there should be an ITV certificate as the car is old enough to require one.

So, questions...

1) What is the process of transferring ownership?

2) Are there any other documents needed?

Thanks in anticipation.

Mike

Hi Herefordjack, please can you post your reply on the open forum as it defeats the point of having a forum which can not only help the original poster but also others on the forum as well.

If the lady is not the registered owner of the car I would recommend that she talk to a local gestor or perhaps the lawyer that handled the estate as the registered owner of the vehicle is not able to sign the transfer forms nor is the purchaser if you're not going to be here to sign.

I've done several car transfers for friends and it's not difficult if you speak Spanish and the seller and purchaser are here to sign. As that's not the case, a professsional is the way to go. In my opinion.

Thanks Myra2020.

Hi Mike,

I agree with Myra - unless the lady in question legally inherited the car from her husband, she is not able to sell the car to you without the relevant documentation signed by her husband.  She needs to take advice from a gestor.

Kind regards,

Kim
