We are looking to come to Moraira next week and due to wanting to bring stuff over to our villa which we purchased earlier in the year would prefer to drive than fly...

The information we have read so far is very confusing. We are hoping to come over on the Eurotunnel and drive thro France and into Spain taking turns to drive so no need to stop-over anywhere.

Is this possible? Does anyone know the paperwork needed, if the borders/ regions are open etc.

Thanks in Advance.

Hi There

Thank you for your quick response!

We don’t have a Patron? We are only visiting our holiday home, so not sure if that is allowed. How are you negotiating the curfew times?

Without wishing to be unkind, if you do not hold Residency you should not be on the Padron. As you may know, the Padron is a file of all permanent residents in a town or village. Some towns halls were happy to enrol holiday home owners on the Padron because it meant they got a larger budget grant from Madrid. Whether that will be tightened up next year, who knows...I suspect not.

In a worst case scenario, showing a border guard a Padron could lead to being asked to produce your Residencia card.

If I was stopped in your circumstances I would show a utility bill for my Spanish home and have the Escritura handy just  in case.

As to travel restrictions, there is definitely a midnight to 0.600 curfew in Valencia province, but I'm not certain about Catalunya. Someone will know.

If you stick to the AP-7 etc you should be fine. I think the Guardia and National Police are more fixed on serious crime than hassling the odd tourist heading south.

Steve

Edit to add. Do not stop for any unmarked car on the motorway. Police will not flash their lights at you as an attempt to stop you. Do not stop because someone is pointing at your vehicle indicating there is a problem with it. If police want to stop you they will use a marked Trafico car or van using flashing blue lights. Such a stop of a moving vehicle is extremely rare.

When stopping at a service station for a meal break or petrol fill, do not leave anything on the seats or visible in the car. Try to park as close to the building windows as possible. When leaving or returning to your vehicle be highly alert for distraction crime. This is where one person attracts your attention while the other unseen person robs the visible contents.

Thank you for your response.
However, I was responding to someone else’s email, I never said I had patron and never asked about that so I am not interested to hear about that!

I am classed as a mere tourist and home owner that just wants to get to her holiday home that cost us our life savings and have not had chance to enjoy it due to Covid as we only completed in February. I just want to know that I can legally drive there.

I think dinnerout was referring to the first responder to your post, Robnew, who quoted “we won't be taking any paperwork with us apart from a copy of our padron just in case” - it couldn’t have been directed to you Sara as you never mentioned having a pardon in your post

Actually you did ask. You said "I don't have Patron?" Note the question mark.

It appeared to me that you were asking what a "patron" is, so I clarified the best ID for a holiday visitor to use.

Have a good trip

I cant believe in all these answers no on said YOU HAVE TO HAVE the the COVID TEST although it might in the links people put on. TEST UK within 72 hours of arriving here, just to also enlighten you many residents inforn POLICE of any new arrivals in area wether from UK or Madrid or Barcelona etc because they are ignoring the the rules they come down to Costa Blanca because we have less hospital beds taken by Covid cases so if they are worried they drive to there holiday homes flouting the rules knowing they can be looked after better here if they do not get rumbled.

Yes you may get here without being stopped and you are asking the right questions but the test is needed before you depart UK its a long way back to uk when the Police knock on your door and ask for your results. I only want to make you fully aware.  Safe Trip

Pete
