I needed my passport and rental contract and my NIE number (if you have one) originals and copies of all.

Just to let you know they do charge for the certificate €3.

If you're not resident, it's illegal to sign on the padrón.

Not really I signed on to the padron in benitachell 5 years before I became resident. It depends what area you are in but teulada, moraira, benitachell allow you to sign on to the padron with out being a resident as long as you have a rental contract or bills to prove where you live.

Not really???

It is illegal, as I said. Some town halls allow it - why should they bother if you break the law - they get more money from central government, and it's you who stands the risk of being prosecuted.

Signing on the padrón is declaring that you're resident, so the tax office can start chasing you to submit a resident tax return.

So why is it every place I lived in Spain has allowed me on the Padron with out residency? and when I applied for residency I was aksed for my padron. I can assure you 100% that benitachell allows you to sign on the padron with out residency.

How many times do I have to say it - it's illegal.

I give up - no more posts on this thread, plus another person added to my blacklist.

Fine but just because you keep saying something doesn't mean its true. I have been on the padron in benitachell and many other towns in Spain with out residency with no problems.

And you sound very childish 'another person added to my blacklist' just because I disagree with you.
