Hi I posted some months ago and still trying to buy a car and not having much luck. I recently bought a property in bigastro and need a decent car for when I’m over from the uk. I’ve looked at so many and can’t believe the cost for not a very good car. I’ve also tried new car but works out so much more money to buy  it outright and loads cheaper to get finance really don’t know y this is. Can anyone give me advice on we’re to get a car from or best way to get a new car.

regards Mark

That’s just the way car prices are in Spain. Try FWR Eurocar’s near Alicante airport.

Also Club Cars La Marina

www.clubcars.co

This is Spain where for a raft of reasons cars do hold their values far longer than in UK.

Lack of corrosion is a big factor, you'll have noticed large numbers of 20 or even 30 year old cars tooling around still largely rust free, in UK those same cars would likely have met their fate at the scrappies at half that age or at best be found in the £200 bargain basement banger market yet still be worth maybe €1000 here.

A further point where Spain differs radically is that you are not judged by the car you drive!

The shortage of new cars has pushed prices up too.

The up side is that once in the market if you decide to change then the extra you paid to begin with will be reflected in the sale or trade in price.

Dealers encourage finance because they profit more from the commission than they do from outright cash sales.

You could always consider buying a decent second hand car in the UK and importing it to Spain. The cost to import it would be far less than the difference in buying the same second hand car in Spain.

Only possible downside is that the car would be right hand drive. Having said that, we have a right hand drive car that we imported last year as well as a Spanish car and we have no issues swapping between the two.

Thanks for the info. Do you know how much it cost to make the car legal in Spain please.

It cost us €1300 in total. We used car-registrations-spain.com

Check out their outstanding reviews.

Highly recommend FWR Eurocars, behind Alicante airport. They are on Facebook.

And as other people have said cars don't age as rapidly here due to the good weather, and this is why they hold their value.

And no, your car is not you, remember meeting a friend of my brother in the UK, whose first question was "so what car do you drive over there?". ????

I personally would not advise buying a right hand drive car to use here in Spain.

Good luck.

I appreciate it is down to personal preference but, personally, my wife and I have no issues with driving a right hand drive car in Spain. Tolls and some car parks can be a bit problematic but we find these are only minor downsides as we are usually together when we are out in the car.
