Hi, does anyone live in the historic town of Bocairent. What would moving there be like for a single middle aged woman. Will it be easy to meet people and integrate. I am half Spanish so speak it fluently. Buying will eat up all my savings though so will need to work. Is buying a bad idea?

Good morning to you Abigail...Where are you residing at present?

As you speak 'fluent' Español', then a good proportion of your question has already been answered.

It is somewhat difficult to decide which path you take, especially being 'on your own', (As I am), but originating from the UK, I really feel as though I made the CORRECT choice, along with 300.000 other British immigrants to this country.

The more that I read and hear about the UK, our once lovely home country, has now, diminished the desire to EVER return!

Decisions ARE difficult, but should you still remain undecided, then there are a multitude of lovely people here who are only willing to help you, for FREE!

Keeping in mind, that should you need to discuss things with anyone, please say Hola and I will be happy to assist you...Gratis!..Merci..🅱️.

Hi Abigail

If you're on your own, Bocairent might be a bit quiet for you. Maybe worth considering somewhere a bit more lively?

Hi Abigail , I live in Petrer ,which I absolutely love , .We my now ex partner and me ,

( still best friends )  bought a wreck ,with no kitchen ,bathroom water electricity etc. It is now reformed to a nice standard

I don’t know where Bocaraint is , but I m presuming it is purely Spanish ,. My biggest problem with living here is , it is purely Spanish , and very few English speakers . and I struggle with the language .

We , like you , used every penny to buy and reform , then life threw a few snowballs with half bricks at us , and we now have the house up for sale ,

But ,to the point ... I honestly suggest you rent first , then decide after you have experienced life in that area ,whether to buy or not , because houses do not sell quick here, and you could be left struggling

I m going to suggest this ...If you wanted to go down the rental route .. I could rent out a room , with the use of the rest of the house ...see what you think of Petrer , which is a hop skip and a jump from any area you might want to. Visit ...25 mins from Airport , 25 mins Alicante beach , 40 mins Quesada etc .

We bought a house in Blanca first ,but jumped out of it because we found out that it is very bad with mosquitos, we lost 3000 € but we got a lucky escape

It s worth a thought , and believe me Petrer has a fantastic community , and the Spanish .? ..Well I cannot praise them enough ....I have many friends here, despite my language problem , so You speaking Spanish is a big bonus

Think about it and give me a call if you think you could be interested ... I ll send you my phone number in a private message ,and if interested call me ...if not , then best wishes

Allan

Hi Abigail , just sent you a message on main forum , .

This is my phone number should you want to come and see what like Petrer is

It has everything you need to be comfortable ,and is very cheap to live in ,unlike your Benidorm Torrevieja ..little Britain type places ...Petrer is a historical town

I ll take you around and show you the area ,go for a coffee ,and a fact finding mission if you don’t like ...which I doubt very much , then no harm done

But I think anybody would love it as I do !

My number is +447763356604

Cheers Allan

Hi again , I m not trying to sell you my House ...I m selling you Petrer as an option worth considering ,as it is a very nice place to live and as we have lived in Blanca    ( rented ) Villena rented , , and Petrer ...also brief days here and there ,to find where we wanted to live and as said before, not offering my house just Petrer ?The people are just perfect ...with the odd fault .. but any faults ,are quickly washed away by the overall friendliness of people , I can tell you many examples of how different ,the Spanish ..real Spanish ! Are far superior to any other people ..I can tell you what I like , what I don’t like , and give you an overall picture of true Spanish life , not your little Britain ,where you get the mixture of Uk attitudes and don’t bother about learning Spanish ,or attempting to become part of the community ,because it is little Britain and everybody they socialise with is british ,...why bother ? They re not interested in Spain just the sun ..and beer of course ...The Spanish like a drink , but unlike the British , you see very few drunk , and even fewer causing a fight  or arguing or just blind drunk in fact I ve seen none of the above ! and I ve been here 4 years

I should work for the tourist board 😀

Hi Abigail , Don’t panic , not a stalker ... just a guy who really appreciates how important friends are ,. Not trying to be your best mate , not trying anything other than telling you my experiences ....I honestly love Petrer , and think it’s a good option for you to consider , because you can’t afford mistakes or that very  expensive mistake , where your world is tied  up in your house , ,more importantly a house you ve not liked ,for whatever reason . and should something unforeseen happen ...  your stuck !! So working on that basis ,I m offering you a very good insight to Petrer Warts and all !

If you like mountains to look at , or to climb , this is a paradise

,.I took up hillwalking ,which I used to think was only for nerds or boring people ,...far from it ... I love it if you do take to it ,it opens up the world from above and keeps you fit 😀

Anyway , be assured I m only offering my help , because ...strange country / culture / way of life ... can be daunting ,but I can help you by showing you an option for your future ...and well ,it’s nice to be nice , and have some help at your finger tips , Spain is very bad for paperwork , and so am I , can only give limited advise on the legal side , but you speak Spanish so , I honestly think you would fit in well with Petrer ,You’ll either totally love Petrer ,or you could possibly hate it , but that’s where the renting side is a better option Try before you Buy ....Sorry for writing war and peace.

A bit over enthusiastic possibly ? 😀

Zzzz Zzzz .......geez thought you had replied quickly there , but realised it was me who wrote that ,,,I bored myself to sleep
