We are moving to La Zenia in mid Jan 19, is it more cost effective to self move or get someone to do it for us. We will only be moving enough to fill a transit van, has anyone got any idea of rough costs of either option. Any contacts would be appreciated.

Kind Regards

Mike

For the hassle factor it’s far better to let the professionals do it !!

We moved in September.

There are two hire companies that offer one way hires to the southern costa Blanca .

we used J hire , but that was due to availability as both are a similar price.

We have a dog so used Brittany Ferries from Poole To Cherbourg, but ferries to Spain are available. The Rac route planning site will give you rough toll charges , France is expensive , and routes can be planned to avoid charges , but that is down to your program,

There are many who will say my advice is rubbish , but I would book any hotels you require in advance to ensure secure parking , as your whole life in a van on the side of a street equals no sleep.

Make the Journey part of the adventure and don't put yourself under pressure. split the journey into easily manageable sections, again route planning sites give you approximate timings allow time for problems,

When planning make sure your co driver is happy with the plans , and driving on the contenant.

Its all about doing your research..

Taking into account . Hire, ferry. Fuel. Tolls. food and drink. Hotels it cost us around £1500, we could have done it cheaper, we could have arrived earlier , but we didn't want to pressurise the journey , and we had a b and b problem , but the drive is easy ,

Don't forget you may be coming over the high ground in January so snow could be a problem.

We moved from the west of Ireland only a few weeks ago. After selling our house furnished, all we brought was what we could squeeze into an mpv. Didn't buy a van because it's impossible to import a rhd commercial vehicle into Spain. We took the ferry from Cork to Santander and did the 1000k from there to Cabo Roig in a day. We originally planned to do a night in Madrid but decided to keep going for two reasons; completely stress free motorways the whole way down, and I didn't want an obviously fully loaded car sitting in a hotel car park overnight.

Costs were in the region of €500.

If I was doing it again, I'd do the very same thing.

Good luck with the journey.

Hi Blues

I did the same but you need to ensure you have plenty of fuel on board as there are long distances between service stations on some of the routs.
