Hi,

We're moving out in the summer, but I planning to keep my UK business going as it's something I can run from Spain. However, I'll need to keep my UK number as all my clients have it, and given what we do, I probably wouldn't get much business if they thought It was a foreign company. Ideally, I could do without the foreign ringtone you get when you call from the UK.

I think I can't keep a UK mobile operator in Spain for longer than 90 days? Therefore,  I'd need to have a Spanish mobile company, but retain my number. Would this be possible?

All advice welcome.

Nick

We kept a U.K. phone when we came to Spain permanently about eighteen months ago, it is a pay as you go top up which we can top up Online, this way we kept one U.K. phone and got a Spanish one as well. We have had no problems doing this.

You can keep your number but nothing you can do about the ringtone your clients will hear.

Hi RayD

I think your reply is a little rude and judgmental.

My UK business is fully legally compliant and has a other UK directors, so will always be UK registered. Plus, as I said if you have read and/or understood, what we do wouldn't stack up in Spain, but can be fully operational from Spain.

All my activities will always be fully legal. Therefore, if you've got nothing helpful to say please keep your opinions to yourself.

I'm sorry but if this forum is full of small minded, ignorant, keyboard warriors people like Ray. It's not for me.

Ray try reading what I have written. It might help!!! All i asked for was mobile phone advice, not a lecture.

The business will ALWAYS be UK registered because of WHAT WE DO. Not because of trying to con, fool clients. I've know doubt Ray you've never run a business, as anyone that judgmental and rude wouldn't ever be successful!

As for paying taxes. I've probability also paid your share over the years, and I've already started the process of getting an accountant to advise of my Spanish liabilities. I totally understand that as a resident I have to pay my dues in my country of residence, but for some reason you think I'm trying to buck the system. Very judgemental.

Next time,  take the time to read and don't be so ignorant!

I loved this discussion. Naivety aside, Having lived here for more years than I can remember.

Many people, here, some longer, some shorter, seem to have selective memories. I am talking about certain regular English speaking immigrants who post their opinions about legality on this forum. I can´t recall all, but RayD, FionaS, Frenchmartini, 271935, & more come to mind. (many of their opinions I respect, read & take onboard).

But…...

When I bought my house, on completion, the notary (discreetly) left the room whilst the “black money” was paid. When I had windows fitted I was given the option of cash (no IVA). Same for car repairs, tyres, gardening, cleaning, occasional bar work, hair-cuts, market traders, tips, gratuities, (“thanks mate I´ll get you a drink”) Spanish locals, that will pull a few weeds up, ladies who´ll clean your house or your friend´s neighbour´s house or sell tissues on the street. Etc….. Let´s be real in a real world. Or let´s turn into politically correct “Holier than thou s”.

I notice quotesautonomo (self employed) to undertake any kind of work in Spain” etc...etc.

All those that have never paid or evaded or avoided such payment….and wish to be judgemental  please stand up.

We´ll start with the immigrants.

Villas.

Hi Nick

Upto now the only Uk mobile operators guaranteeing their no extra roaming charges after Brexit are 3 and Smarty(owned by 3). They do state limitations on time though (2mnths). Vodaphone however had no limitations and they stated you could live in Spain and they,d still keep their free roaming ongoing. They havent as yet stated their intentions after Brexit though. The ringtone is caused by the Spanish operators so that cant be changed. If you change providers to another Uk provider you can keep your number obviously. Good luck.

Pauline.
