I currently have a U.K. mobile number and use internet banking apps for my UK banking.

I would like to change to a Spanish provider but could I still use the Banking Apps I now have with a Spanish number

Dear Wizzy,

You have probably sussed that you won't be able to port over your UK number, but that is an aside. Apps should load to whichever genre of phone you have e.g. iPhone etc and language settings can be tweeked as well. If your app store stays intact, you should be ok.

What you may find difficult or frustrating is that your bank, say, wants to text you a code as multi-factor authentication. As long as they will message to your new Spanish number that is fine. The hassle of unravelling all of the services that use your UK number may be a little daunting...even to the point of keeping it on the cheapest tariff going.

Let us know how it goes! ;-)

Barclays bank app will not work on a Spanish numbered phone. I've tried to install it on my wife's phone and it won't install. That is the reason why I keep my UK number.

You are welcome Wizzy. Given Tebo's cautionary note re Barclays it may be best to keep your old UK number regardless, and that receive any multi-factor authentication codes.

It just occurred to me that quite a few banks (probably all over time) are requiring a UK address and won't accept your Spanish one. If that becomes the norm then the chances are that they won't like Spanish phone numbers in the system.

I could be wrong but best play safe or get a Spanish number and new handset then try it / test, but I'm now inclined to keep my UK one.

Take care.

Thanks everyone for the info. I have decided to get a Spanish sim only for an extra handset and keep my U.K. number for financial purposes. Can you still use What’s app and other apps in English
