...nbsp; There's been a disproportionately high number of people in these professions, who became seriously ill and many died as a direct result of a failure to provide them with adequate PPE (gowns, gloves, face shields and masks) and the close proximity from which they cared for those already sick with Covid.  At the other extreme, there are asymptomatic people going about their business, oblivious that they are infecting their family, friends and colleagues.  If those individuals decide that it's OK for them not to wear masks, not to wash their hands, not to maintain social distance, the possibility for exponential growth in infection rates is increased even further.

The many variables that affect people's susceptibility to catching the virus and the extent to which they become sick is why no single precaution is sufficiently effective to prevent infection.  These precautions aren't put in place as a list from which we can cherry-pick what we want to do - the combination of them all, along with vaccination, provides the best level of protection we have, until such time as the world gets Covid-19 under control.
